175g/6oz self raising wholemeal flour
50g/2oz demerara sugar
2 tablespoons dried skimmed milk
2 small eggs, broken
5 tablespoons cold water
handful of sultanas
2 overflowing tablespoons liquid honey
4 overflowing tablespoons mascarpone cheese
doggy chocs, candles
pre-heat the oven to 180oC /350oF/ Gas Mark 4 , grease two 18cm/7 inch round cake tins
put all the ingredients ( except the honey, cheese and doggy chocs) in a bowl and fold together to make a light, airy mixture. divide the mixture into the cake tins and bake in the middle of the oven for 30mins. pierce the middle of each cake with a metal skewer ; if it comes out clean, they are cooked. allow to cool on a wire rack.
use a sharp knife to level off the top of one cake
mix the honey and 3 tablespoons of the cheese together and spread the mixture on the levelled cake. place the other cake on top and frost it with the remaining cheese.
decorate the cake with doggy chocs and the appropriate number of candles

Or you could just buy a large pork pie and stick candles in that :D

after all it doesn't contain any sugar and is only a one-off treat :)
I know my dog prefers the pork pie :D

Hi
My girl Luna is 1 year on monday the 5. of april, and I wanted to make a birthday cake for her. I stumbled over your recipe, and decided I want to make that. It doesn't sound to bad (for me I mean). I don't like cheese or liver and such.
Here are my questions:
1: In Denmark we don't have selfraising flower, do you know how much baking powder I should use and how much flour?
2: Demerara sugar - what is that? Could I use normal casted(spelling?) sugar?
Hope you can help :-)
Jeanette

Baking powder is mixed with plain flour at the rate of 1 level teaspoonful/8oz flour for biscuits and batters, 4 level tsp for scones, 3 level tsp for sponge cakes and 1 level tsp for rich fruit cakes (all per 8oz flour).
Demerara sugar is a light brown sugar.
Hope this helps.
:)
Hi
Oh yes thanks, now just a little question more. How many grams is 80z?
How much would you use for the birtday cake recipe above?
Jeanette

8 oz is 225g (or as near as makes no difference).
:)
