Hi All
I have started giving my Bichon Piriton this evening for her allergies as per advise from my vet. They said to give her 2 a day. She is very sleepy which I believe is normal. Should I look for any signs that it's not agreeing with her, and do you think that 2 is ok??
Thanks
Jo

My westie bitch has had in the past 2 Piriton tablets a day (one in the morning and one at tea time). They didn't make Bonnie sleepy although the vet said they might.

I am no expert but 2 piriton seems a lot to me for a small dog - 2 make me very sleepy and I am no lightweight. Perhaps if she is too sleepy half a tab twice a day might be better. Vet best person to advise of course.

Thanks Both
She has been having 2 for 2 days now and it isn't making her to sleepy, so thats good, she also seems to have stopped itching which is even better!!

I replied because you said she was "very sleepy" in your original post and thought the dose too high. Glad she isnt sleepy and they are working :p :p

My bitch weighs 20 kg and she was proscribed ( don't think thats right SP) 6 a day, I queried it and was told that dogs have a tolerance to the drug and as they don't drive it is not a problem if to start with it makes them a bit sleepy.

I dont drive either :p :p - and I know now how much to give to Barney if he ever steps on a bee again so that is good

An alternative to giving antihistamines in the case of stings is the homoeopathic remedy Apis Mel easily available from Boots etc.

One tablet will deal with a bee/wasp sting. My bitch was on the drug for an unknown allergy.
