Another puppy farm raided by the ISPCA and Wexford SPCA

The ISPCA in conjunction with the Wexford SPCA raided yet another puppy farm in the Wexford area. Officials were alerted that 119 dogs were being kept in appalling conditions and responded immediately.

The dogs, most of which are toy breeds such as West Highlands, Pomeranions, Yorkshire Terriers and Schnauzers were removed by the SPCA's for veterinary treatment.

Six of the dogs had to be put to sleep immediately because of the condition they were in. Some of the dogs were suffering from prolapsed eyeballs, widespread mange and fleas.

ISPCA Director of Operations, Mr. Alastair Keen said "This is another example of the huge puppy farming industry in Ireland and we are calling on members of the public to support us at this time. These puppy farm raids lean heavily financially on the Society and if we are to continue to close down these farms and provide the veterinary care required we will require assistance financially".

ISPCA officials have arranged a meeting tomorrow the 26th of February with representatives from the Department of the Environment to discuss a way forward in preventing this vile trade.

Heard this on the radio this afternoon.  Am incensed especially as i was in Wexford today...who knows how close i was...maybe I drove past the place this morning...

Georgina...am I the only one driving around this country wondering what is going on in all those lonely barns and seemingly abandoned farm steads, set well back from the road?  I imagine you do the same.

I have emailed the ISPCA and the Dept about this on numerous occasions but have yet to receive a single reply.

If only we had a more pro-active ISPCA...seems to me they are all bluff and bluster...they never seem to acheive any changes in law, on any of their little projects...or am i just on a downer that another puppy farm has been discovered....yet, nothing was done after the last two were raided last month...(they were both too close to me in location - Offaly & Tipp).

Grrrr...most of the time I love this country and sometimes I truly loathe it!
