can anyone shed some light on the possible causes of leulaemia in a puppy of twelve months old , we are waiting for test reults from our vet who has removed her spleen and variouse tumors that were attatched to it . this has been sent for examination. she also has to have ten days of kemo.I have read several possibilitys eg over vacination the leptosporosis component of the vacine causeing the imune system to weaken. this puppy is twelve months old and is one of eleven all the other sibblings are fine, could it be say as in humans some of us are more suseptable to cancer than others eg over exposure to certain elements any advice would be grate fully appreciated

I am so sorry to hear about your puppy and hope that the prognosis will be good.

There is circumstantial evidence to indicate that dogs kept on a high calorie diet are more prone to developing cancer; saturated fats may act as a tumour promoter whereas Vitamin A may inhibit them.  Also there are many additives in dog foods and their role is not completely understood.  Not to mention environmental factors etc.

The link I have posted may be of help.

regards
