please help, got a 4yr old king charles from dogs home 1 week ago, accepted dog with kennel cough, as was on antibiotics. Has not eaten even a handful of food since we brought him home. Have tried almost everything, think he does want to eat, was wondering if it could be his throat being sore and anyone know of anything which he may try. Things we have tried so far as:
Tinned dog food ( good stuff)
Dried dog food
Complete dry dog food
Liver ( ate a tiny bit)
Tuna
Egg and Tuna
Cold meat (ate a tiny bit)
Biscuits (dog and chocolate ones!)
Milk
Please if anyone has any advice would be grateful as we love our charlie and are getting worried.

Try hot chicken. Remember he has been through a lot of upheavel and is missing what is familier. It will take several days if not longer for him to settle in. Dogs can go for several days without eating but they MUST have fluid. If he doesnt improve within the next few days take him to your vets

Hiya
Try scrambled eggs (done in the microwave so they are extra fluffy!) and hand feed when its cooled.
However, if liver was the most appealing to him - try going back to hand feeding it again or just leaving a little in front of him. Bombarding him with different things to tempt him is exactly what I did with mine, but perhaps just leaving it in front of him, while giving lots of quietly reassuring loves and cuddles will bring him round.
You already know how important water is - try leaving a saucer-full in front of him :)
Lots of luck

If you can get him to drink try some glucoise(naff spelling) in his water then at least he is getting some help

If he's not drinking on his own you could try slowly syringing a little glucose and water a few drops at a time into the side of his mouth, just to keep him going and possibly get him started but if this doesn't work after a few hours it may be best to see the vet just to make sure he's not dehydrated.

If he is drinking you could try a few brewers yeast tablets (eg. vetzyme) I have found them wonderful for improving or restarting a dogs appetite.  Do you know what the dogs home was feeding him?  They should have told you so that you could give him familiar foods.  If you have it and he's refusing it try soaking it in chicken stock with a hint of garlic and offering it wet and warm.  If he has an upset tum and/or diarrhoea from the antibiotics then Yoghurt and honey will help to get him right.

Hope he's better soon
Regards
Dill
