Hi, I collected my Havanese on Sunday and realise that it is still very much early days for him to get used to us. When we got are Cav I cant really remember if he was off his food for a few days, but the new dog seems to be,is this normal he is eating a few biscuites and a little meat yeaterday but wanted nothing this morning. (I haven't changed his feeding from his breeder)Also advice please on dry versus tins. I have always feed my Cavalier Iams thinking I was doing right, but have now read the posting on this product that will have to stop.

The following have been approved by BUAV as not tested on animals:

Naturediet, Burns, Arden Grange, Happidog and Trophy.

Naturediet is a complete wet food sold in vacuum packs (not tins) the others are complete dry.

Both naturediet and Burns contain only meat, rice and veggies and are free from the multiplicity of additives of some other brands.

Try feeding him by hand to get him interested in the food. Offer tasty bits of chicken etc :p ....which worked when we picked up our 5 month old pup who was missing her brothers and sisters.....it only lasted a few days....after lots of love and reassurance, he should start to take up the food again. We were lucky that we were forwarned about this happening.....so focused on the cuddles more than the food at first.....if its TASTY....he'll eat it eventually ! :D

Thanks, That is more or less what we have been doing. Just needed some kind person like yourself to reassure me that it was ok for him to be a little off his food. We just wont him to be happy and settle in as soon and as well as possible. Thanks again.

We went through this when we first got buster. We made the mistake of giving him anything we thought he might eat and so he turned to be a fussy eater. This had to stop so we changed his food slowly to a complete gluten and diary free product (i get it from local pet shop) and if he did not eat it after about 30 minutes we took it up and tried agian next meal time. Try to stick to the same times when feeding. They soon get the message if they dont eat it within a reasonable time it gets taken away untill next feeding time. He will soon settle in to his new suuroundings with a lot of praise and cuddles.

LOL Sonny ! That's exactly what we did too .....the settling-in period can turn into a never ending spoiling-her rotten period :D To rectify this...your advice is spot on !!!
