Topic Dog Boards / Health / Westie Skin problem solved

Hi All

You may remember my posting about Angus's skin problem a few weeks ago. The Vet gave him an allergy test and the results show that he is sensitive to Soya. Since I've put him on a Soya-free diet he has stopped scratching and biting himself. Some of the complete, dry, "sensitive skin" diets have Soya in them which is someting I am careful to avoid.

Anyway he is now a happy boy once again.

Cheers

Excellent news.  An allergy test saves so much time and experimentation and the avoidance of expensive "prescription" diets and treatment to alleviate symptoms instead of removing the cause.

Although soya is a great "complete" protein for humans it is not really suitable for dogs as they cannot utilise it properly and it also can cause terrible gas!

Don't forget to look at the contents of any "treats" or supplements as well.

Really pleased for you, bet your dog is too!

Hi
Which diet is he on now?

We feed him either home cooked chicken and mixed veg served with a mixer (with no Soya products in it of course) or Butchers Tripe mix if we run out of the home cooked stuff. We tried him with Winalot tinned food but it started him itching again so I guess it must have Soya in it.

Cheers
