I used to show Rottweiler's when I was 14 years old (now 27!) - Really enjoyed it and did quite well but I started to dislike the experience due to nasty comments and bitchy-ness! Anyway...grown up now and not as sensitive as I used to be ;), and I'm really tempted to get back into it again! I am going to crufts this year to watch the hounds, as a starting point...BUT, the breeder of my pup (from showing parents) told me that she didn't think my girl was of show quality due to a slightly higher than acceptable tail carriage

- but as she is getting older, she is really starting to look good (as she always does of course :D) and a ring is developing at the end of her tail (afghan) she also moves beautifully (biased...Me!) I am thinking of taking part in some fun exemption show's in the summer - should I stay away from anything more if the breeder say's she wouldn't make the grade when she was 11 weeks old????
Sarah :)

Would the breeder be offended if you tried showing her in open shows
to see how she goes and maybe then progressing to champ shows?
Is her only fault the tail carriage ?
11 weeks old,has she seen her since and how old is she now?

Hi Carolyn, she is 6 1/2 months now and her breeder hasn't seen her since. We kept in touch briefly but not recently and I didn't have any intention of showing or expressed an interest. Her breeder kept her sister and was very proud of her but my Lana was too playful and didn't quite have the required aloofness for a show afghan, which was the impression I got.? Lana moves as if she own's the world :D - and during movement her tail carriage is nice, out straight. I have taught her to stand and she does it quite happily...I don't want a crufts champion, I just think it would be nice to have a go and I dare say I will get the bug again :) - I love her whatever and will definately do some fun show's...I searched her family tree on paw village pedigree website and even found some photo's of her grand parents being shown - funnily enough nearly all the photo's I have found on the net of afghans being shown have the handler holding the tail up :D

If I were you I would take your bitch back to see the breeder again, and have her re assessed. You might be right about her looking good now, but the breeder will guide you. In any case I would definately enter some companion shows as a starting point. Go for it. Good Luck.
Dawn R.

I would have a word with your breeder too and see how she feels. We all have to start somewhere and we don't all own Crufts BIS winners :d Take her to the breeder and advise her on what you would like to do with her. Good luck. She sounds like a character, must be the name I have a Lana too.

Think your right Dawn...She's such a funny thing - loads of charachter, pretty and very adorable (such a proud mum :)) - may well visit the breeder in the near future..Looking forward to seeing the hounds at crufts!
Sarah

Unfortunately Lana doesn't do Crufts!!! She had a bad experience a couple of years ago (house broken into and Lana disappeared for 2 weeks) so she now hates children with a vengence!! The little lad at London was Anton her son. He'll be there again this year with the old faithful (Dilita) :d

A whole lot can change between 11 weeks and 6 months! Your breeder may get a pleasant surprise!
bye

HI Rozzer
wil be at the elkhound benches along with Brainless and Jackie H...come along and say hello.
As for showing...I would just give it a go.Start at open level and see how you get along .If its only tail set that concerns her breeder theres worse faults IMO.Even if shes not champion material she could still give you a bit of fun

Hi Archer, will definately come and say hello! Nice to see Brainless got a lift sorted in the end :)....And I have my 'Rozzer' badge at the ready :D (thanks Liberty!!!)
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
If I were you, I'd definitely give it a try! What have you got to lose?
I'd try at the exemption shows this summer and see how she behaves....then try a couple of open shows.
You never know! I'm sure the breeder knows what he or she is talking about, but a lot can change in that time.
Go for it...best of luck!
Lisa :)
