Topic Dog Boards / Health / Kennel Cough?

My dog came out of kennels last week and for the last couple of days she has made a noise like - excuse me but- someone bringing up phlem with a dry throat.  Not all of the time, usually in the morning.  Im reluctant to take her to the vet as I dont like chemical medicines and would prefer to use natural product where ever possible.  She seems a little needy too, but eats and drinks the same. Any ideas?

sounds like infectious bronchitis (kennel cough) this is a viral infection so will take a long time to clear up. The vet will usually give you antibiotics to treat any secondary infection so it does not develop into full blown bronchitis or pneumonia if your dog is a normal nosed breed and is young and healthy then you can use benylin for kids to help the cough, if the dog is a puppy or elderly or a squashed nose breed then i suggest taking it to the vets as these animals are prone to a more severe case of kc and it can develop into much worse problem so antibiotics are the best option.

Emba , it may be an idea to ring the kennels you went to incase they have had other customers whose dogs are showing signs of kennel cough. Was your dog vaccinated against kennel cough before it went into the kennels? Sounds like it could be KC to me too!!
