does your dog(s) do something really special to cheer you up?
any funny habits?
amazening tricks?

I love hearing how wonderful our 4 legged friends are, and how they mean the world to us!

Norman sits up like a mere cat when there's food on the go.  Not something I taught him as it's not good for his back but he looks pretty cool all the same.  Especially when he tries to give you a paw at the same time.  It's as if he's saying "Pleeeeeeeease feed me.  I'm straaaaaaaaving"

Suppose you had to be there
- By Val [gb] Date 21.02.04 21:34 UTC
Joe the first photo in my (obsolete) wedding album is me sitting on the sofa at home with a Min Smooth Dach on my lap - before the first picture of the future husband!!  Must mean something!! ;)  Sammy was bought into the Vet's where I worked at 2 years old to be PTS.  He'd been sold to a doctor who emigrated, so he gave him to a friend.  The RSPCA (wash your mouth out Val!!) rescued him from his next home as he was left out in the garden in the winter, with no shelter, while they worked all day.  The family who bought him from the RSPCA brought him in to be PTS - and still only 2 years old! - because they'd bought a siamese kitten and Sammy REALLY didn't like cats.  The nurses used to say in those days "Do you really want him to be put to sleep, or can we find him a home?"  Times have changed eh??  So although I bought home many a dog and found it a good home, Sammy was the one who stayed, and spent the rest of his life with our family!!  They're a bit special aren't they??

If I'm ever a little down or tired and I flop onto the sofa Maisie will give me a cuddle and bury her head into me, she's so sweet as her legs are like eitherside of me!!!!

Moya always jumps on me when im on the floor!  Normally knocking glasses flying!

Willis - Blue Dane:

Loves to have his face by you and gets very inistant - standing over you and making you stay where you are put
Has to lie infront of HIS heater - smacks it with his paw until its turned on
Steals things and runs off - has systematically taken apart my sons pirate ship and chewed it bit by bit
Doesn't have a bed - has a sofa
Likes to play....with the horses
Relishes the fact that he is the only dane allowed on the bed and takes advantage all the time

Phoebe - Brindle Dane:
Slobbers white frothy egg white foam everywhere
Conceals stolen objects within her lips
Ignores everyone and everything other than her family - I love her for this
Has a mad five mins on the way home from a walk - jumping up madly and sending egg white froth everywhere
Resents being the only dane not allowed on the bed, but can't control the slobber from going on the pillows.

Zak -Black Dobermann

The fact that he loves Ebony is great he always puts a front leg over her when sleeping side by side
Steals anything but has to show you what hes got and when i ask for it back he will shake his head as if to say no
He will put his head on your knees when he wants a cuddle.

Ebony - Black Dobermann

The best thing about Ebony is she smiles, when she greets you ,when shes had a nap, and when ive had to tell her off
she also likes to just put her bum on the sofa or bottom step.
she is just starting to become more protective especially at night so hearing her bark is quite funny at the moment.
- By dawn [gb] Date 24.02.04 22:38 UTC
i have a blue greatdane  i love when people ask her to sit , then she sits on them or when i am reading then stop look at her , she looks back at me to say next page
- By Izzy bear [gb] Date 21.02.04 20:05 UTC
Funny habits - digging in her water bowl, splashing it everwhere usually on the kitchen floor and then laying in it.
When doing anything in the garden she will pick up her football and butt you in the bum with it resulting in a very muddy bum and if she times it right, while you are bending down a face full of grass (or mud as blades of grass are few and far between in my garden).

Amazing tricks - Making you share your food while you dont know your doing it, could it be telepathy?
Barking so high pitched it immediately gets you off your bum to do what she wants, let me in, out, play with me ect.

Puglet snuggles right in when in bed, and nuzzles her head in just under my chin, then gives a big sigh - then snores like a little pig :)  Junior sits on my knee, then flops back like when he was a puppy, so he is lying in my arms like a baby - trouble is, he is now a 25lb baby, so quite a strain on the arm and shoulder, but he looks so cute and so peaceful that you put up the the pain ! :)
bye

Just being dogs, or in my case hounds, they need do nothing, they can please all your senses, just by being there.

When Heidi was a little dot we taught her to give us high fives by showing the palm of our hand and she would put her paw on it, now she does a bit of gundog training the stop signal is a pip on the whistle and show her palm of our hand, to which she sits 50 yards away and trys to High five you.

My Sibe girl Kieron always talks to me. She never barks, but speaks in loud or soft "wooooo-wooooo"s. She is extremely vocal. I love to listen to her. She and I enjoy sitting in the living room to howl with each other. We drive the Amazon parrot crazy! But its fun.

My Sibe boy, Houdini, doesn't talk like Kieron. He is rather quiet. But he is very sweet and loving. He adores licking us! But one of the more impressive things about him is when he is standing at attention. If something has caught his attention and he is at a side profile, his ears are pricked up as far as they will go. His eyes never move at all. His chest is deep and therefore shows when he is at attention. That tail of his curls right up in that graceful sickle. He just looks so majestic, and he is only 19 weeks old! He also has a "snow nose" that he got from his dad. Its that cute little pink streak on his coal black nose.

Both dogs are wonderful and so silly. If those two didn't do all they do, they wouldn't be themselves!

Morse likes to lean on us gently to have a hug. He sings too, tunelessly under the girls bunk beds and I just love watching him run towards me with his ears flapping and his mouth open in a big grin. In fact I love watching him run and bounce through long grass like Tigger. He also brings me his cuddly elephant to play fetch with such an expectant look on his wee black face with his eyes popping out with excitement. It chokes me cos it took a long time to teach him to play with us.

lily has learned that if she jumps up and slaps me on the back of both knees i fall over. absolutely hilarious according to the little madam !

Anton lies down with me sometimes then he puts his front paws around my neck and gives me a kiss :d  Carina just jumps 6 foot into the air from a standing position.  Lydia, well she's just Lydia, doesn't show much affection but sometimes comes up to you and just pokes her tongue out far enough to touch you, bless.  Dilita, well she's just a wonderful old girl who enjoys every day of her life and cheers up everybody who meets her.
- By munster [gb] Date 21.02.04 23:43 UTC
Love the way my munsterlanders insist that they are all 8lb lap dogs instead of 6 stone hulks. Well I suppose you are never too big for a cuddle, unless you have just spent the morning wallowing in the muddiest puddle you can find!!!!
- By TracyL [gb] Date 22.02.04 08:29 UTC
When I'm eating, Sparky goes through his whole repetoire in a desperate attempt for a biscuit. With each little trick he makes a noise that sounds like "ohhhwuh" as if he is tutting in annoyance that he can't find the one we want. Then he ends with his favourite - a "finish" where he ends up sitting next to us with an expectant grin on his face.
- By Rosemarie [gb] Date 23.02.04 16:12 UTC
Whenever I sneeze, no matter how fast asleep Molly is, she'll be up and on my lap in a split second giving me a big cuddle and 'licking it better'.  Bless her, I'm sure she thinks I might be dying.  Who would feed her then? :-)
- By lel [gb] Date 23.02.04 16:20 UTC
I love the way Gus thinks I'm the best thing since sliced bread when i come home and gets sooo excited . I love the way he snuggles to me up on the sofa  too
Love the way his little face appears at the window when he hears my car :D
His best trick is  the way he can twist me around his little finger ;)
- By earl [gb] Date 23.02.04 16:33 UTC
This is one they all seem to have mastered lel!   It must be something their mums teach them at a very young age!  :D

I know Earl :)

I love the way my roughy toughy German Shepherds find a sudden preference for the cold hard floor when the cat is curled up in the middle of their vet bed  :D

But what you don't point out is that your cat is almost as big as your German Shepherd

Mostly in attitude :D - he's not that big  :D

I like the look of my GSD- she's got a lovely head and beautiful expression:-)  I like it when she hears a faint sound/noise in the distance and gazes out very still and quiet- she looks soooo beautiful, noble, proud, elegant.........................................ahhhh the list is endless;-)

Also when a funny sound is made on the TV and she cocks her head from side to side rather puzzled:-)

When the alarm goes off in the morning Anton jumps on the bed and sits next to me with his head going from side to side.   It looks so funny seeing this round wooly blob staring at you.
- By mygirl [gb] Date 24.02.04 22:47 UTC
When my daughter falls over, dolly will sit at the side of her so she can use her to get up!! Half the time it was dolly that knocked her over in the 1st place but well the dog has good intentions :D
And the way she can sit there with a tennis ball concealed in her chops! Truely amazing lol

I love the way Jas & Tam play together.  They also love to snuggle up to me when I am on the sofa.  Tammy likes to SIT on my chest with her back to me and wag her tail, Jas lies on my feet and snores.

Have learnt not to have a blanket over my lap in the really cold weather as Jas will curl up on the sofa and bury himself under it.  He did this down my mum's.  He was stretched out on his back over my brother's lap, his wife's lap and their friends lap.  Didn't know where he was until we asked where Jas was and then there was movement from under the blanket and Jas' head came up with a big grin and wagging his tail.  When I said "okay" he turned round and went back under the blanket. :-)

Jasper also laughs when you tickle him under his chin.

I love every millimetre of my Henry.  I love the smell of him and the way he greets me if I go out and come home  by tryingand the way he makes me so proud in training by trying so hard to get it right.  Sometimes I look at him and have tears in my eyes just because I love him so so much.  He is my world and I wouldn't swap him or his habits for millions of pounds.

He always brings a smile to my face even when I am tired or a bit down, he is always makes me happy.
- By stephanieohara [gb] Date 25.02.04 14:48 UTC
I love the way Mia protects me from the wardrobe monsters whilst my OH is away :D, i love the way she smiles at me when she knows she's been good, and the way she cuddles upto me on the sofa whilst watching telly, the way she greats me when i get home as if i've been away for ages and wont leave my side until i take my shoes off, basically i just love every little thing about her :)
- By Charanda [de] Date 25.02.04 14:57 UTC
I love the way Glazby greets me when I get in from work, we call him Wiggle Bum because he's docked (a boxer) he hasn't got a tail to wag and instead his whole back end does a wiggle and its sooo cute!!  He also has to find something to show me as a present when I get in - be it a bone, a slipper or today - the toilet brush he'd found in the bathroom!!

I love the way that he knows its 6.30am in the morning as he wakes us up by sniffing under the bedroom door - he knows its his cuddle time on the bed for 45 minutes before we get up - I open the bedroom door and he comes in, jumps on the bed, gives me and OH a big kiss before settling down between us for a doze!!

Its also so cute watching him sleeping when he has dreams, you can see his legs going as if he's galloping across fields in his sleep!!

He's my gorgeous boy and I love him to bits!!
- By LOOBY [gb] Date 25.02.04 15:14 UTC
Hi Charanda

i know what you mean re the wiggle, its cute to watch.

I have a girly hug with dudley (boxer) i kneel on the floor and he puts his feet up on my shoulders then washes my face and hair :D.  At some point he then clatters me in the face with his paw.

I once read somewhere that the wiggley bum for boxers is referred to as the kidney bean dance.?

Dudley will be chewing a toy and go down on his front feet with his bum in the air and bends his spine over so he either collapses in a heap or does a somersault.

He sleeps in our room, starts of on his bedding and at some point can be found on the bed, he likes to sleep sat on OH leg's or cuddles in between us with his face on the pillow and looks at you.

They are very entertaining.

His most off putting trait (barring wind) is when he cleans himself then goes to kiss you, yukky.
- By Charanda [de] Date 25.02.04 15:43 UTC
Hiya Looby, I know EXACTLY what you mean about being clattered round the face with a paw!!  Glaz likes to sneak up behind me on the sofa and then puts a paw on each of my shoulders and rests his head on mine.  He then does a massive sigh and starts to lean on me so that I have no option but to lean over and then the washing of my face starts but he's generally so eager to do it that I get bashed round the head with a paw in the process!!  My OH has had a couple of black eyes now!!

I think the wind has got to be Glaz's worst trait - I have never smelt anything like it in my life, really does make your eyes water!!  Funny watching other people's reactions though - I don't think they ever quite believe it until they smell it!!!  :-)
- By LOOBY [gb] Date 25.02.04 15:54 UTC
When Dudley was younger (8 months now) he would be curled up round your feet, he would then fart and be disgusted at the smell he would get up and move away from it,fart again and keep moving until he was more or less in another room :D :D

Does Glazby like bubble bath, we are having to lock sir out of the bathroom as he wants the bubble bath and likes to drink the water, the other night he proceeded to lick my mud mask of my face. :-)

last week he knocked one of my contact lenses out of my eye and i had a lump on my eyelid from his feet.  Defintely not a dainty breed.

Still wouldnt swap him in the world.

One day i would love a house full of them.

Would maybe need air conditioning to assist with the chemical warfare. :D
- By Charanda [de] Date 25.02.04 16:01 UTC
Awww 8 month old boxer - Glazby has just turned 2 (it was his birthday on Monday!!)  He loves bath water, infact he's pretty obsessed with the bathroom as a whole at the moment!!  He's been intrigued as we all go into this room regularly and then close the door to keep him out - he just can't understand why we don't let him in with us!!

He discovered the toilet the other day - had a nice long drink out of it - yuk!! and also loves drinking the bath water, no matter how hot it is!!  We play with bubbles all the time and he loves it - I hold a handful of bubbles out to him and he blows on them and then goes mad as they go everywhere - never stops making both of us smile!!

Chemical warfare is right - we could bottle the smell and sell it for a fortune as it would knock anyone out within 10 paces!!

A lady from a boxer rescue called me last week to say that they had one looking for rehoming and we were really tempted though one is enough at the moment - when we've got a bigger house and I'm at home all day then maybe but I can only imagine the trouble they would get up to if there were two of them!!
- By Joules [gb] Date 25.02.04 14:55 UTC
I love Emmy my Lab when she yawns....  it's a real over exaggerated noisy yawn that makes me smile!

I love it when she's dreaming and makes a really low "woof woof " in her sleep! and she makes sucking noises and sometimes sleeps with her tongue poking out!

I love seeing her every morning when I get up. We have a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs to stop her coming up at night, but when she hears me moving around in the morning she goes to the gate and sticks her head at the bars and starts to wag her tail when she sees me! She looks like she is in puppy prison!!!

There's so many things I love about my dog, she's one in a million x
- By dresmummy [gb] Date 25.02.04 15:30 UTC
Our siberian husky Dre, sings along to music and mobile phones ringing, nose in the air howling away, only it has to be certain songs, others he just walks away from and then looks as you as if to say "dont like this one". It quite amusing to watch and you can see he enjoys it as the tails wagging and he has a grin on his face.
- By labmad [gb] Date 25.02.04 16:01 UTC
Oh wow Joules Henry my lab makes those yawning noises - he sounds like he is Michael Jackson he sort of makes an owww sound when he does it ha ha.
- By Joules [gb] Date 25.02.04 16:59 UTC
ha ha ha Labmad... that's exactly how Emmy does it, Michael jackson style! And then it's nearly always followed by a head shake, just to further make her point!!
- By Drai21 [ca] Date 25.02.04 17:01 UTC
Kirra has a little stool by the window and whenever I get home, or there is an odd noise outside, she will run to that stool and press her nose against the window.  Sometimes in the evening, when I getting ready for bed, and all the lights are out in the rest of the house, I'll have to go hunting for her.  Most of the time I'll find her sitting on that stool looking out at the stars.

She too will go through her repitore of tricks if she knows we have something she wants.

Every morning after my alarm goes off she moves from her regular sleeping location, the end of my bed, to cuddle up beside me with her head on the pillow for our morning snuggle.  There have been mornings when I found her under the covers, right beside me, with her head on the pillow.  If I don't give her this attention in the morning, she will follow me around the house until she gets it.

She always yawns when you stroke either her ears or her jaw line.  She loves having her ears/tail/and paws played with.

If something new is being done, or there is a sound she doesn't quite remember, she will cock her head to the side and give you the most adorable look.

Since we have had Copper, they both greet us at the door more vocal than they ever are.  We figure they are trying to tattle on each other, so we let them go on for a bit and they quit.

I can't imagine life without her now, and I've only had her for 6 months.
