Please can someone tell me, how long after pups 2nd injection can we start to take him out into the big wide world? Two people have told me different things, so I thought I'd ask the audience. :) Many thanks
Fluffy.

What does your vet advise? Mine says about 10 days after the second jab.
:)

Hi Jg.
It was two different vets, one said 5 days and the other said two. We're very keen to get take him out for his first proper walk but don't want to risk anything.

We have been told as soon as the 2nd Jab is in!!  Saying that with the other dogs we had and us I think they were immune anyway!

thing to remember is that the time difference is not just due to differing vets opinions, but that the different vaccines have different times needed.  so go by what the vet who administered the vaccine told you.  He will be advising you according to the vaccine manufacturers instructions.  Some vaccines can have 2nd injection administered as young as 10 weeks, and the pup can go out  5 days later.  Other vaccines must be given at 12 weeks (or more) and have a 'developing' period of anything from next day to 10 days.
bye

Also bear in mind your environment - I live in a rural area, so alot of foxes, rabbits etc - so more chance of disease and bites etc - town areas not so bad, we were told 10 days, wont do any harm I guess to hang on in there a few more days if you're worried tho

Hi Fluffy

My dog went for walks the same day I got her, of course not for a long walk. But she said hello to the dogs we met on the way. She had her first  jab when she was 7 weeks old, and I had her when she was 8½ weeks old. She didn't get her second jab until she was 12 weeks old.

She has (knock on wood) not been sick yet. She is now a happy 10½ months old girl!

I live in Denmark, I don't know if the jabs are different or not. But no one I know, with dogs, keep their dogs from walks and meeting other dogs, as long as they have had the first jab!

I personally believe that the risks of not socialising outweigh the risks of catching anything but everyone has to do what is comfortable for them.  The risks for the urban dweller are higher as the dog population per sq in is higher and if you were worried about wildlife you would not let them in your garden!

You wont be able to walk her for very long any way at that age. I was advaised to do the five minute rule - 5 mins walk for every month of age. Lisa
