Hello
I have just had a look at a website about HD, which advises that you can give a dog Asprin daily to help with pain and inflammation of HD?

Do you think this is ok???, and also if it is can you give the fish oil to???

Thanks

Jo

The vet advised me that an aspirin a day was fine to help with our old lab's arthritis.

Hi Jo

Asprin is not suitable for all humans (for instance me!) so I imagine it could be the same with dogs, especially if they also have vWD etc.  If my dog was in pain I would prefer to get a specific canine pain killer from my vet rather than hope for the best with a generic drug.  By all means give fish oils but your vet is the best person to ask about pain relief

Hope your dog is not too uncomfortable :(

i know some people who do do this,i have a collie (14months) with hd & his is managed VERY successful on vitamin c, & deer velvet supplement.& hydrotherpy. if he ever does look stiff he has devils claw for a few days to reduce inflamation.those days are very few & far between im pleased to say.
going back to the asprian the people who i know use it for general stiffness not HD.
personally i wouldnt want to give flynn a aspiran every day for the rest of his life,or any non natural medication, unless the natural stuff stopped working.

you can get liquid form form pet shops, i prefer human stuff from Boots ,tescos etc as its in tablet form im certain what they are getting. for a collie, start off 2in morning 2 at night for a week, then 1 in morning 1 at night untill the dog is sound, you may then be able to cut it back to only one aday,or like i do whenever they are stiff.

Thanks Michelle, I'll get some Devils Claw this week. What else shall I give Rosie as I'm going to stop the cod liver oil as she could od on to much vit a and d.

Would the fish oil supp be ok?

hi! ive never had a prob with cod liver oil.all of mine have a capsule a day or every other day.
try the vit c as this is meant to increase lubrication of the joint fluid. theres a product called Ester c (really expensive but good) that i use as it isnt as acidic as ordinary vit c,so better on their tummies.
if you really didnt want to use cod liver oil then try the fish oil,ive never used it but ive not had a problem with it. how much do you give?liqiud or tablet?
