Hi, I'm looking for a dog cage, but one that can easily be carried to and from the car every day. I've seen that most of them (for a labrador) weigh in the region of 20 kilos. I don't want anything fabric, as it will initially be for a puppy. Can anyone advise me? Thanks.
Think you will get to find it a pain in the butt to carry one to and from the car every day - its the folding and resurecting all the time - if you can could you not have one for in the house, and one permanently in the car?? from people I know who have tried it, using just the one becomes a nightmare, esp when pooch gets bigger - have you thought about a doggy seatbelt for in the car??

Hi Debs, yes it had crossed my mind. However, I'm not sure if it's the best thing for a puppy. Are they quite secure? Also, do you not think the puppy might try and chew it etc.?
Depends on the dog. I have two cockers who have travelled in cars using car/seatbelt harnesses since they were pups and neither chewed the harness, yet I know others have done. Its worth a try. They are as secure as a seatbelt would be for an adult human and stop them from being thrown around. You can also get an attachment to an ordinary harness that goes into the seatbelt attachment now from:

I know of people that have used them - I personally wouldnt, I prefer the crate - its more secure for the dog, easier to clean in case the dog is sick / has accident / gets dirty etc, no chance to chew anything - also keeps the seats clear for people to sit on!!! My friend has one for her jack russell, and you wouldnt believe how often she has to clean the seat - she has a rug on it, but they move / slip about - that and when her dog has got wet and dirty it makes the seat smell!!!! Its all down to personal preference and circs - but dont forget, if you do take the harness route you will have to change it more than once probably as your puppy grows. Do you know of anyone who has one you could try out??
