I have two dogs that are ready for breeding. They are yorkies. The female is about 1 1/2 years old and 8 pounds and the male is about 3 years old and 2.9 pounds. I need to know about the TIE. Do they have to tie?? I have read some books and got online but still can't find the what I am looking for.
He did get in her today with my help, but just did not tie. Can someone please help me out.
Thanks,
Courtney

Hi Courtney,
In my opinion, your bitch is too young to be breeding. Best to wait until she's at least 2 yrs old.

This would be her 3 time in heat and the vet. told me that she is able to have babies..

She would have been perfectly capable of having pups at her first season, but that doesn't mean she should! Actually 18 months (3rd season) for a toy breed is often okay, as they mature faster than the larger breeds. (Vets aren't usually the best people to tell you when a bitch should be mated!)
:)
Hi Courtney
As already mentioned your bitch is too immature/young to be bred from yet. Forget about it for this season and take the time to learn about mating/breeding/whelping/rearing puppies and all the other things that people come on here to ask questions about in a panic that should really be researched before-hand.
Just because a dog "can", does not mean it should have "babies". Some 8 year old girls can have babies and 60 year old grandmothers - this does not make it right.
This is not meant to sound harsh, just commonsensical

Hi Courtney - to answer your question, most dogs will tie after a successful mating, but not always & as long as the dog has ejaculated inside the bitch it is quite possible she could be pregnant from a mating without a tie. The crutial thing is the timing of WHEN she is mated & if she's mated on the right day/s.

Thanks for the answer. I did call the vet. today and asked him about the Tie. He told me that same thing.
Thanks you,
Courtney

you're very welcome :)
