I have walked in the same park now for 6 years with the same crowd of people and there various dogs from my newfs to collies , mixes to everything you could think off ( Almost )
There is a chap that walkes with us who lost his old dog 2 years ago , he decided to get a new dog as he missed the company , he got himself an akita , he's a lovely boy i must admit , the chap has done a wonderful job socialising him and he is now 14 months old.
About four months ago we were out walking and he told me that someone has offered him £800 to use the pup at stud.
I told him that the dog was far to young and asked him if he had had the relevent heath tests done, which he replyed no!
I advised him that there were far to many unwanted dogs in this world and everything that goes with it , but all he seemed to see was £ signs.
Two days ago , i saw a lady who was telling me that she had been to see this litter that had been born and she was going to have one of the pups , guess who the dad is !!!!!
And the mother, well mum is a rottie cross, the same lady that asked me to use my newfie!! ( Which said NO in another thread ) and she is charging £700 per puppy and they have all sold, all 9 of them.
Can't beleive it  , money money money !!
I hope that the people who bought the puppies all have problems and all bring the puppies back wanting their money back!!!
Appantly she is planning the next litter already.

I cannot believe anyone would pay £700 for a mongrel.  Do pure bred dogs have such a bad reputation that all of a sudden mongrels and mixed breeds are now the "in" type of dog to own?  And why pay such outrageous prices for a mongrel?  Do people think if they pay a lot they must be getting something special?

Guess I have nothing but questions :-) I do not understand it when the animal shelters are full of mixed breeds waiting for adoption.

It seems that cross breeds are the rage at the moment , as long as you have a strong masculine dog in the mix ie Akita like above, people want them , i know it's crazy but as long as joe public keep buying them , breeders will keep breeding them.
There is a pet store near me that sell litters of pure breeds and cross breeds and they are not that much diffrent in price.
Rotties are about £900 and rottie crosses about £750 , it makes me sick
Like you say Stacy , i do not understand it either

hi

wow £700 thats more than i paid for my pedigree dog i suppose it helps gurantee that the potential owners really want the dog or they would'nt pay it, if they were cheap any old tom, dick or harry could have one which would be worse but obviously it would of been better to not breed them at all!

i find that unbelievable that people would pay so much as the mum is already a cross!  i once had a boxerxdoberman he started out by looking like a boxer but by the time he was an adult he resembled neither breed in his looks, only in color, he was black and tan he was a fab dog but i only paid £75 for him. although he did'nt come without problems, he was'nt good with other dogs or men  and very sadly died at 6 years of age due to illness i don't know if it was to do with the 2 breeds in him but to be honest i would only now have a pedigree so that i knew what i was getting who knows how big these dogs will turn out!

jojo,

Sadly £700 seems to be easily available to those who want a macho dog, but it doesn't ensure that the dog will be wanted next year or even next month as the only thing these people appear to want is to be able to boast about how much their dog is "worth" and how its a "new breed"

I have to agree, the only cross breed I ever owned (Afghanxlong legged 'jack russel' - an accident that almost killed the mother!) is the only dog I've ever had who cost a lot in vets bills, the pedigrees seem to be healthier (touching wood here)

I hope the dogs don't have problems if only for the dogs sake!
