ive been waiting for my bitch to come in season for a year now. how do i go about inducing her into season and how much does it cost? will I have to register with a vet or can you do it yourself?

you could try housing her with some other in season bitches (I know this is not practical for most people) but this will sometimes bring them in, otherwise there isn't anything you can do yourself. The vet will only try & induce the bitch if there is a valid reason for doing so, & be warned there are risks involved with this type of treatment.

as far as im aware a vet will not induce a season until the bitch is 20 months plus late.
i have never had a bitch induced but i have known two people who have one had a very small litter (2) average litter size is 6-7 and the other didnt produce a litter at all.
inducing a season also increases the risk of the life threatening polymetria ,so in my opinion not worth risking.
I would try introducing the bitch to other in season bitches if possible.
I tend to go with the spring and autum rule with seasons my bitches often go 10 months between seasons so hopefully the warmer weather and longer daylight hours may incourage her to come in naturally.
i belive there are various herbal remedies on the market ,again mostly uneffective and dont be fooled into thinking because there herbal they are safer than perscription medicine as this often isnt the case.
:)
