Just started to get into showing but have a problem, can anyone give advise on what will help settle my dog at open shows. He stand great at training but as soon as we get to a show he starts to jump around like a mad bull. He as only attended two shows and did the same at both.
Thanks
How old is he and what breed?
Some dogs never settle - they enjoy it TOO much ;).
He could also be picking up on your vibes. If you are nervous (I must admit to nerves myself :D ) he could playing up because of this. Time and experience will hopefully solve this. There are herbal remedies that some people use. I've never tried them so can't comment. No doubt someone will come on and help even more than I can :) .

You could try arriving early and then taking your dog out for a long walk to burn off some excess energy :)

the problem with that can be getting the balance right...too long walk and the dog can lack 'sparkle' in the ring ,too short and it has little effect.
I would suggest that the owner just keep attending ring craft and shows and hopefully when its not so new to the dog he will settle down.I would also suggest being strict with the dog so he knows what is and is not acceptable behaviour
