Hi All
Just wondering whether anybody can answer my question, i have got a west highland terrier and as you can imagine trying to keep him looking white is very hard especially this weather when he gets over the field with the other dogs and rolls in the grass when playing, the thing i want to know is how often can you bath your dog before the frontline protection gets affected, i asked my vet who said you should not bath him too often because it will weaken the frontline protection, i would ideally like to bath him every week or at least every other week but am concerned about the flea control, i usually frontline him every month in the summer and every other month in the winter, i know it says it lasts for 8 weeks but in the summer months when fleas are rife i do like to do him more often.
I hope somebody may be able to answer my question.
Thanks
Helen

Hi Helen,
A lot depends on the quality of his coat, and how you have him groomed. If he has a correct hard topcoat and you have him stripped, then the mud should brush off when it's dry and he'll look clean again. If he has a softer coat (as many seem to have these days) or you have him clipped, then bathing will be necessary because the 'weatherproofing' abilities have also been removed. In that case I would have thought bathing once a month frequent enough to retain at least some of the Frontline's protection.
Hope this helps.
:)

im sure(think it says on the packet) that as long as you dont get the dog wet 24?hrs after applying it will be ok. this is because it gets into the "system" Dosent just stay on the coat.
i forntline my dogs only about twice a year when the tics get really bad , i feed garlic which helps with flea & tic control (amongest many other things!)

I frontline every couple of months or so but I must admit I don't bath very often. I just chuck her in the river if she gets too muddy.
Best wishes, John

I have a Westie whose passion is rolling in anything mucky and the smellier the better. I've spent many a car journey home with my nose and mouth tucked into my clothes and him looking like the cat that got the cream. He's a soft coated Westie but i try and not wash him too often. I brush the dried muck off but if he's really smelly i'll shower it off him (no soapy stuff). He's not a lover of water so getting him in the shower calls for under hand tactics. I wish we had a river but then he would'nt go in it anyway. When he's been treated with stronghold i avoid washes for 24 hours as per instructions on box.

i live near the sea and everybodys dogs go in the sea often daily and we checked with the frontline rep who said that the spray is more effective at retaining its potency under repetative wetting, yoou should not bath the dog 24hrs before or 24hrs after applying and if you shampoo use a mild one like johnsons baby shampoo so there are no chemical in it
