Hi All
I went to the chesmist yesterday to get some Anthistamines for my itchy Bichon and asked for anything that contained Palaramine or Pherigan as I was told that anything beginning with 'P' is supposed to be good.
They just looked at me as if I was mad, can someone give me a name of one that I can try, and if someone has used one that works on itchy skin, please let me know.
Don't know if we can say the name on Forum so can you pm me.
Thanks so much

Have you seen your vet about the skin problem ? It is always best to get things checked out as it maybe something that is not an allergy etc.
Always advisable to get proper medical help first. Apologises if you have already done so !! :)

Hi Lucy
Yes seen vet loads of times, always want to give steriods, spoke to a different vet last week who are going to do a skin scrape but she advised on trying anthistamines as it has worked for her Lab.
Do you know of any??
Thanks
Jo

You need to be careful. There are so many you can buy over the counter and in supermarkets now. Some of them cause drowsiness so best to ask your vet which one to try.

I'd only give half a tablet daily to a small dog. It's supposed to be very effective. Hope it works for you :)

piriton does work i use it on some of mine
Rosie,it was me who reccomended POLARAMINE,i should have stated that i'm in Australia, sorry :o
I would have thought you would have similar brands over there? My vet/dermatologist was the one that told me the best brands were the ones starting with the letter P.
I must say these tablets are magic,Emma my shih-tzu was almost Constantly licking and chewing on her paws and belly and within 2 days of giving 1/2 tab twice daily she has completely stopped :D I have been battling her allergies for 2 years, with natural, homeopathic methods, none of which really helped,i am kicking myself that i didnt try this sooner,i am petrified of side effects which is why i hadnt tried convential meds but apparently the only one this brand has is drowsiness which i havnt noticed, she is her usual bouncy self. The price isnt too bad either,$10 for 30 tabs.
I am so sorry the chemist thought you were a froot loop :p as it is here we only have 3 P brands to choose from, one of the things polaramine helps with is "allergic reactions produced by contact with grass, plants and other substances" Emma is allergic to grass :(
good luck and maybe check out another chemist ;)
Please let me know how you get on.

Hi Christine
Thanks for that advise, I haven't picked up the Piriton yet, but have been told that it's good. I will let you know how all is going when I have them.
Thanks
Jo
