Can anyone tell me about OCD? I have a dog that has had a limp for about 2 weeks and has seen a vet, the vet xrayed his foot, elbow and shoulder(6 diffrent xrays) and they were all clear the vet told me that he could have just pulled a mussel. The vet has never said anything about OCD but i was looking up on dog that limp and can across OCD. Do you think the vet would have seen it on all the xrays that he has done? My dog is 8 mth old now and the limp is not that bad now but i cannot help but worry, can anyone help?

Hi,

you didn't say what breed your dog is.  I had a Rottweiler that limped from 5 months until about 9 months.  It seemed to go on and on even though he was strictly rested.  He had xrays which were clear. In the end it just disappeared all be it slowly and never returned.

Hi guest.
I'd be very surprised if a vet would miss OCD on an x-ray, after all, that was no doubt the reason for taking the x-ray in the first place. I would guess the vet has eliminated that and that's why he said a pulled muscle.

As a thought, another possibility is Panosteitis. This id characterised by an intermittent limp which often changes sides.

Best wishes, John

Panosteitis and OCD both show up on x rays.  I think after several clear x rays then the vet is probably right in suggesting a strain or pulled muscle.
