Hi Becky, there are two things that you ought to do for sure. One is, ring the breeder that you bought your Akita bitch from. Tell them what you would like to do and ask for their help and advice. These are the people who will know which stud dog will suit your bitch best, according to her faults, virtues and breeding. The other thing to do is, buy a copy of 'The Book of The Bitch', it's by J M Evans and K White, and is available via Amazon.co.uk
Of course I'm making a big assumption here, that you got your bitch from a reputable breeder and not from a puppy farm, pet shop,or pet supermarket type place. You will get loads of useful information and advice here on Champdogs if you register, (it's free) and talk away.By the way, the best stud probably does not live in your area, but you wouldn't want anything but the best, would you?
Good Luck

Hi Becky.
I assume that your bitch has been eye tested and hip scored & is well bred, KC Reg'd & a good example of the breed? Any responsible stud dog owner will require these things.
Do you have plenty of suitable homes lined up? Akitas can have very big litters and, as I'm sure you know, Akitas do not make suitable pets for everyone.
Above all, you need to make sure that any dog you use has an impeccable temperament - there are far too many Akitas being bred purely for money and with no regard to health or temperament.
