Hi I am going to get a golden retriever puppy in about 6 weeks and I am going to use a crate for house training purposes, what size cage do I need??? I want to buy a big enough one that will be his den when he is fully grown???

Thanks Julie

You should find the 36 inch long x 24 inch wide x 27 inch high will be a good fit.  I would recomend getting one with two doors, as this makes it more useful as it can be put lengthways in the car and dog got in and out the long side, or you can use the door in short side in other situations.

I'd recommend a 42" one for in the house, and a 36" one for in the car if you can afford two - as it is a mighty pain to have to keep lugging it in and out of the house / car, folding it - re-assembling it! I have a Gordon Setter, who grow a bit bigger in height than a Golden, and those are the crates I have. Does the breeder use them? what size do they have? the 42" size will have plenty of room for him / her to stand up in, move around, stretch out etc, some people block off part of it when the puppy is small, but I didnt with my boy, his bedding covers the whole base, and apart from his first two nights home he has never had an "accident" in it.  They are wonderful things - I wouldnt be without mine, and he loves it!
Good luck with your new arrival!

Debbie
