Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Where can I get a long lead/line?
- By chrisclipson [gb] Date 10.02.04 08:59 UTC
I've been trying to get a long lead to use on walks and around the house but can't find one anywhere. Anyone know a source (ideally over the net)?

A lunge line from the saddlers or you could make your own from sash cord from B & Q etc.

I know of some good quality ones if you email me.

Try Ebay. Got mine for less than £5 incl delivery - bargain.

I made my own from flat 1/2 inch nylon webbing and tied a swivel hook to one end ,you can buy the webbing by the metre at b&q.

Very few pet shops sell them; you need to either make one, or get one from one of the on-line places....Ancol springs to mind, and there are others....

Good luck in getting one :)

As already stated, a horse lunge rope from a saddlery shop is perfect, or an abseiling rope from a outdoors shop - these are solid and hold a man's weight, so very strong. You need to atach your own clip though.

I use a lunge rein (horse) - Got it from Robinson's country and leisure, mail order.  The rein cost about £6 and is 9 metres long.  They also do clickers for about £1.50 so I ordered one of them too :) (they're about £5.50 in PAH)

We have a 32' retactable lead for ours, have had them about 15 years now they are made by flexi

A flexi-lead is different to a long line.  With a line attached the dog can run free but will trail the line so that you can step on it if neccessary - don't recommend trying to pick it up if the dog is moving faster than a walk.  With a flexi lead the dog is effectively still on lead- just further away.
