my elderly yorkie not incontinent does have a few accident on the carpets he is a good boy but carpets getting a bit smelly looking in the argos catologue  today i saw steamer at £130. and electric bex bissel for £99 ,they had special pet shampoo for carpets, out of the 2 what would be the best to get, i was thinking the steamer would prob not get rid of the smell am i right
he was very poorly some mounths back and doing very well up on his 4 legs can manage to walk to the corner and back loses his balance a lot

I used a carpet shampooer for pet mess.  When my dog was a puppy it worked fine using the carpet shampoo to get the smell out.

We hired a carpet cleaner from Safeways, when our previous dog had problems like your yorkie and it worked brilliantly, cheap to hire too! why not give that a try before you decide?
I think the steamer may give it a cleaner look,(my Mum has one),but I'm not sure it would remove odours.
We didn't use the pet shampoo, but got the traffic cleaner which you spray and leave for a bit, then you shampoo with a dilute solution of the ordinary carpet cleaner. You can buy the liquids when you hire the machine and I bought enough to probably last me a lifetime

I have both and the steamer would get rid of smells and stains and sanitize the area. I use it to clean bedding and chairs as it uses no chemicals and its supposed to kill fleas.
But I think the carpet cleaner is better overall. I have a Bissell cleaner that is so easy to use just like a hoover. You can see any grime being removed into a seperate tank, with the steamer you still have to use a cloth to mop up the area.
We are in the puppy stage and the Bissell has been wonderful.
