Hello everyone, I hope you all had a good christmas. We had a fun christmas as we collected our long awaited border terrier pup Elsa two weeks ago, and we are delighted with her. This morning, however, I noticed a lump on her muzzle which is concerning me, it looks a bit like a 'spot' from the surface, and had a whisker growing out of it, which came out very easily as I was inspecting the lump. It doesn't seem painful, but seems to be about the size of a pea under the skin. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be? she is 12 weeks old, so to her it is quite big! I am not sure how long it has been there but due to the scruffy appearance of the BT muzzle, it may have been there a wqhile, I just don't know! any help or advice would be appreciated, many thanks
Emily.

Hi there if you at all worried about it then take her to the vet for a check up. However, if there was a whisker in it then the chances are it is the normal 'lumps' dogs have where their whiskers grow and on some dogs they can be quite large.

It does sound a little 'abnormal' to me - the size of a pea is quite large on a BT. Was there any discharge from it at all? Any heat? Does she object to it being 'fiddled with'? It could just be a 'spot' - ie an infected hair follicle (which would be why the whisker came out so easily) I'd be tempted to bathe it, treat it with a veterinary antiseptic cream and watch it carefully.....

thanks, both, I have been watching it carefully over thge last few days, and it seems to be going down, I think that it may just be an infectionn caused by whiskers growing, but we are going to the vets for her microchip this week, so I'll ask them to take a look.
Thanks again
Emily (and Elsa the border terrier:) )
