My dogs defintally eat better than me!!! i eat so much junk with chemicals etc the doggy eqvilent of the worlds worse pet food! i treated my dogs to lamb breasts last night & the lady out the check out said "i didnt think anyone of your age would know what to do with these" ( im 28, but dont really look the domestic goddess type) she nearly died when i told her it was for my dogs!!!!!!

My husband complains about my dogs being better fed than him.  They get steak as a real treat once a month and they both love liver one eats it raw the other has to have it cooked thouroughly.  My dogs don't complain about my cooking either.

One of my neighbours asked if I was having a party because I had three carrier bags of meat.  When I told her some of it was for my dogs she laughed.

I am also 28 michelled and not exactly the perfect domestic goddess.  My husband hinted at this when he bought me the book "How to be a Domestic Goddess" by Nigela Lawson.  My hubby, Paul is not a great meat eater so I don't know why he complains because when I do cook a nice steak for him he leaves half of it so the dogs get it anyway.

I think we are all guilty of this if we are truley honest.

I get the same wierd look when I go to the Supermarket.
I buy Hearts, tongue, ox heart ox liver etc. Along with Chick wings and any other type of 'cheap' meat products. I also but pork fillets, lamb fillets and lamb ribs.
The cashier normally comments on the amount of fresh meat and presumes my partner eats a lot.
When I tell her it is all for my ferrets I get told I must be mad.

My hubby is always bitching at me saying that I worry more about the dogs then the family. I'm always looking what is in their food ect but not ours....I think we eat pretty good I said your a great cook :D

I'm guilty of it too :o It is a touchy subject at our house, hubby is always complaining that the dogs get fed better than him(must admit they do :D) But our dogs totally rely on us for everything, they cant fix a meal for themselves whereas hubby can :p
I dont eat much meat but each week i have a full basket of bones and just about every type of meat,it gets a bit embarrasing at the checkout sometimes, especially when they have liver and heart on sale and i have a trolley full of it,i always mutter quietly to the checkout girl "it's for me dogs" it gets annoying when people say "how can you waste good meat on DOGS"as iff they dont deserve it?? The butchers seem to be the worst,it's almost like they get offended that your'e feeding their meat to dogs?
I must show hubby this thread as he thinks i am the only pet owner who goes to great lengths in feeding their dog the best stuff,he asumes all pets just get fed on dry food

LOL so glad to see I am not the only one I am a VEGETARIAN but every week cook fresh chicken/fish/livver/etc for the dogs with fresh veggies and rice or pasta.  Never use commercial dog food since the oncologist mentioned they were looking into additives maybe contributing to the rising cases  of cancer.Don't think this was ever prooved but though why take the chance lol.  Mine aren't moaninglol

oh you are brave ebony2003 not many vegitarians would do that
so liver is ok? i gave my boy a heart once he batted it about and let the cat have it i dont think he was impressed.

Lol not brave, but as my sister says  'she will do anything for bracken! (spoilt because she was only given six months to live three years ago so every day week months and now years are a bonus)'.  Liver is fine good source of iron, don't have alot of problems with the dogs eating though the only thing Ebony turned her nose up at was pheasant!!!  There again though they are labradors and eat practically anything and everything!!

Liver is fine and a great source of Vitamin A, I feed my dogs totally raw and they get raw liver, hearts and kidneys!

I knew i wouldnt be alone!!!!!!!

But only give liver a maximum of twice a week, due to the high level of Vit.A,is this correct??
I wish i could give liver everyday as my dogs luuuurve it :D

All dogs love liver, I would not feed it more than once a week myself.
