My Son has annouced he is getting married - now some of you may have seen my past Posts on the subject of Son & Girlfriend. When we were told I saw the look of happiness on his face and that said it all, after all the upset before Christmas, I have said as long as he is happy it doesn't matter about anything else. The shock came when they said the date, June this year!!! And they have been engaged since 2001 and not told anyone! HHHHHmmmmmmmmmm!! They have now told everyone, and selected the Venue/bridesmaids/bestman/Ushers Etc Etc ..........they haven't booked a thing!!
It is only 20 weeks today!
Any comments gladly received

Congratulations Sweep. I'm new to this board, so have missed all previous postings! Better start looking for your mother of the groom outfit! :D

My only (thank god) daughter got married last July. We opted for a Friday because the venue and the photographer she wanted were booked for 2 years ahead on Saturdays!! It took us over a year of planning and organising and was veeeeerrrrry expensive.

I am inwardly in Panic mode - There is no way we can contribute towards the Wedding at such short notice(not that we have been asked). When Hubby and I got married(27yrs ago) we had to pay for it ourselves and that took us over a year to sort out.

It'll be fine. A friend of mine got married two months after setting the date and they managed to get everything in place in such a short time, so I've all faith in you're two sorting themselves out too.
Even if you can't help them financially (and they probably don't expect you to at such short notice), maybe you could help in other ways? My husband's mum died a few years before we got married and I was sorry that she wasn't around to join in the organising with us. I know she'd have loved to come to dress fittings and things.
Hi Sweep, congratulations. Are you going to buy them a washing machine as a wedding gift? You've inspired me to make an effort with Gothboy's current squeeze ( I just dont like the girl, mainly cos I really liked his last girlfriend, which is grossly unfair) and he's very happy about it. Is there a reason for the rush or is it just a spontaneous thing do you think?

Evidently they have had this date in mind(Theirs) since they got engaged in 2001(news to everyone!!)
No patter of tiny feet I hope for a very long time!
As for an outfit - it's the 2stone at least I have to get off!!!! OMG!!!
Lorlei - you did make me laugh about the Washing Machine as a present - NO chance!

Hi what an excitement....Last summer one of the girls I work with got married and asked me to help...her own mum was not able too...it was wonderful we made the wedding favours , and the invites on the computer and embossed them with some magic powder and a hot air gun ...I did the flowers in the church and in the reception all for £80 we had a lovely fruit merchant and we went in our Nurses uniforms!!to buy them .She bought her dress ess etc in the sales..so now is the time to shop and saved a fortune..
The venue she choose was expensive but she had the wedding on a friday and it was a bit cheaper and she limited it to "special" people..so enjoy it,it is a wonderful thing to be asked to help and you sound as if you know how to get a bargain so go for it !!!!

Jan P - That all sounds great - I have loads of ideas but the few I have mentioned have fell on deaf ears - I know I wont be allowed to be that involved. A Shame but true. Never mind. I do have a Daughter too!!!!!
