my jack russell was spayed last week and she keeps scratching her belly (not her stitches), I assume her hair growth is bothering her. But her belly now has big red sore patches where she's scratched, is there anything I can do to stop her? She has a cone collar thing but obviously that doesn't stop her scratching with her feet!
thanks

she probably got fleas from the vets - make sure you mention it when you go for stitches out and you could put calamine lotion on sore spots for now(make sure she doesn't lick it though)

I found that sometimes even though you think they are not scratching where they have been spayed that sometimes the ends of the stitches are a bit long and they cant get to them so they scratch. These can be digging in a bit and need trimming off. Also they can get a razor rash where they were shaved and that makes it very raw - homeopathic cream for burns or the Hyperical cream is very good.
