You could try clicker training - why do you want the dog to skim them? To save time??

THE CLOTHIER NATURAL JUMPING METHOD by Suzanne Clothier is a very good book. We have used this system mainly for dogs that have lost confidence with jumping. I'm not too sure what you mean by skim. Dogs tend to jump closer to the pole (ie skim them) as they get more confident and their speed increases. Neither of my two have been taught to "skim" the jumps, but as they've gained in confidence they've jumped closer and closer to the pole. What dog/s do you have?
