I asked you a couple of days ago about my dalmation that was acting strange (i.e. sleeping a lot etc.) you mentioned it could be a phantom pregnancy. This morning I got her out of her bed and took her for a long walk as you suggested and when we were nearing the end of our walk a staffy dog started to play with her. The dog was whimpering around her and then started to play quite rough, growling etc then tried to mount her. Whats going on? Shes been out of season for nearly 3 weeks now. I telephoned the vet early this morning for advice about her tiredness and they said as long as she was eating & drinking it must just be down to her just coming out of season. I am due to get her spayed in a couple of weeks. I'm very confused as to what is going on. You recommended Rasperry leaf tablets which I am going to get tomorrow. Will these take the symptoms away or make her feel better. Will I still be able to get her spayed in a couple of weeks?
Sorry for being a pain but you seem to know your stuff.

Hi,
Things are certainly pointing towards some form of hormonal upheaval. Many pregnant bitches seem to excite dogs in this way, so as you know for sure that she has not been mated then the likelihood is that she is brewing a phantom. There is also the possibility of infection, so I would get the vet to take her temperature and generally check her out. Speaking personally, if my bitch was brewing a phantom I would not have her spayed till it had settled down - about 15 or 16 weeks after the start of her season. But if it is an infection making her act like this then spaying sooner rather than later is the way to go. The raspberry leaf tablets will do her no harm, and will ease the symptoms of a phantom. But I would certainly get the vet to check her out. Hope all is well - good luck.
:)
