My 12 year old Lab is on a people food diet (no commerical dog food at all), consisting of basically chicken, beef or fish and grains and vegetables, I vary her diet a lot---She has been on this for three years and is doing very well, health wise.  However, her stools are typically loose---not diarreha, but not firm---we are moving to the mid west from California, and Im concerned about the four day drive there.  Can you recommend foods that I can feed her to firm up her stools?Any help you can give would be GREATLY appreciated.  Thanking you, Marilyn Ellis

Some dogs have an inability to remove the moisture from their food before it exits the body; others have intolerance to some foods causing the same result. If the semi-liquid stools are the norm may be she should visit the vets for some tests to be done.

As you say you feed human food thought I had better check that you are not including anything that has salt or sugar in the diet and that the grain is rice and the veg is being lightly cooked. Most human stock/gravy contains a good deal of salt as does bread.
