I have decided to change my dogs food to burns and i read on one of these posts that you can get samples from the burns web page, but i can't seem to find this, unless i just buy a small bag and pay for carriage costs. Also i have a 10 month old golden retriever and i was wondering whether the ordinary adult food is ok or whether i should be using the mini bites or the canine extra? If she needs the puppy mini bites, at what age would you reccommend changing to adult food?

I know you can get JWB samples from the website but didn't know about burns.

If you leave a message on the Burns site saying you would like a sample and leave your address they will send you some.

Hi Lucyandmeg,
I think you've made a very wise decision to give Burns a try. I switched my 16 mth old Labrador to it a few weeks back and immediately saw a big improvement with her. For some months she had suffered intermittent limping but since changing to Burns this has cleared up COMPLETELY! Also she has a lot more energy and her coat looks so much better (not that it looked bad before but its really beautiful now, and very soft). I really can't tell you how highly I recommend Burns food. Also if you have any questions they are very quick with replies and extremely helpful. (online ordering is good-fast service and reliable).
I'm pretty sure you can switch your 10 mth old Golden Retriever to Burns adult food but if you email them they will reply super fast to confirm it.
Lots of luck,
Best wishes,
Val :-)

I agree. Molly (working cocker) is fed the venison and rice variety and has the most gorgeous coat. And Burns are very helpful if you have any questions, and have a free and efficient delivery service.

I've just recieved some burns samples and im a wee bit concerned about the soft silky coats you all seem to be mentioning.mines a course coated breed and after all the hard work hand striping her i dont want soft.Any wire/course coated dogs around fed on burns?

Don't worry my breed have a harsh coat and it is no problem, think the coat becomes in it's best condition.

Same with mine too. Jackie's right, it improves the coat they have, rather than turning all breeds' coats into lovely silky ones :)

This is a difficult one, my dogs have changed shape, muscles condition improved but they seem to have lost flesh covering on the rib cage but increased it on the back and down the shoulder blade. It is not really possible to say by feeling and looking but their weight has not changed from when they were fed Arden Grange. The puppy (on adult) is a little barrel, rounder than I would like but do not like to cut him back yet.

Hmm, it is difficult :D With my two, the elder has stayed the same weight, but I would say his overall shape has improved to the eye, although he feels much the same to the touch. With the younger, we've had terrible problems getting body on him. However, since being on Burns the body IS coming on at long last and the digestive gurgles etc we used to have to put up with have all but disappeared :)
However, Burns do say on their website that some dogs will drop weight initially, and their solution is to slow down the changeover to Burns. Have a look

Have been thinking about this and whilst feeding the mob it dawned on me one of the reasons that they seem to have change shape on Burns may be when given free exercise they all run longer, harder and faster than they did before, even the 10 year old.

I work for Burns Pet Nutrition as one of the nutritional advisors.
If you ring our free phone number 0800 018 18 90 then we will be happy to send you samples and information. Alternatively, e-mail us on info@burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk with your full address to request a sample.
We suggest Burns Mini Bites for puppies up until about 6 months old (there is no hard and fast rule). However, at 10 months old we would actually suggest you try your puppy on one of our adult foods. Compared to other brands of food we do change our puppies to adult food early, this is because we prefer a steady rate of growth. Rapid growth can lead to heavy muscle mass on immature bones, we think this may be a contributory factor in problems such as arthritis.
I hope this helps.
Fiona.

Hello Fiona,
How nice to see you here. I've received several emails from you via Burns, and just wanted to let everyone know how very helpful you have been to me. As you may remember I am overjoyed at the improvement with Poppy, my 16 month old Labrador. Fiona, you'll be pleased to know that since switching fully to Burns, Poppys weight is reducing at long last and her limping problem has completely gone now.I can only put this down to Burns food and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
(as well as the above problems that have now been helped by Burns, Poppys coat is like satin - really beautiful and her health really does shine through). Wonderful.
Thank you again Fiona, and very best wishes to you and all at Burns,
Val :-)

FIONA
I got an email from you last week via Burns, I have a 10 month old dogue de Bordeaux that we have just moved on to the Venison and Rice, I did not realise that when feeding Burns that you do not have to feed the same amount of food, Kujoe is about 9 stone and we were feeding 32oz split into 2 meals, but now we have to cut his meals down to about 24 oz.I feel very mean giveing so little.
We had Britney the other Bordeaux at the vets today for pre mateing swabs and the vet was so impressed that she was so solid and that there was no fat just muscle, the vet nurse wanted details of of where she could get Burns food as she had not heard of it. I came home with a rosey glow that they felt the dogs were so well conditioned.
