I have a great dane pupy and just wondering does any 1 have any simular problems who have a great dane or have previously owned 1.
my babe  everytime he goes near another dog  or puppy  they all run away from him because of his size. And fully grown dogs will attack him because of his size.   He even gets attacked by my partners mums chichua .   He is very boisterous around other dogs and has now just found his voice to bark back at them.

does any 1 know of any great dane or any other big dog clubs where he can be with other big dogs...   he is only a puppy and only want to play   but no other dog likes him.........

are you stalking me  :D :D :D its normally that Jeangenie.... ;)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 25.01.04 18:22 UTC
Dunno what you mean ... ;)
- By Carla Date 25.01.04 17:25 UTC
I know exactly what you mean.

You need to put your boy on a lead when dogs approach and try to avoid him being attacked by little dogs especially. Some little dogs are intimidated by danes and come out fighting - which isn't good because your pup will remember and be gunning for them when he's older.... Work on his recall and have him back with you when little dogs are around.

With Willis I found a couple of people with Weims and one nice man with a flatcoat who let Willis play - and that was sufficient really. Most owners pale when they see a dane and turn in the opposite direction!

I'd get used to solitary walking if i were you ;) It exercises the brain and is lovely and relaxing! Well that's what i keep telling myself when every dog owner avoids us, even the stray dogs stay away lol.
I meet a lovely red setter occasionally which is nice but my girl is too boistrous at play so i wouldn't trust her with anything smaller than a lab, (she tends to stand on JRT's).
Sorry did someone mention recall? What's recall Chloe? ;)
- By mygirl [gb] Date 25.01.04 18:58 UTC
Hey i noticed you live in Wales, i'm moving next month to Anglesey so i'll meet you with my girl it will give her someone else to pick on rather than me.
She's a good girl really :D Honest! ;)

Yeah that would be great  ...my baby is abit boisorous but i just thought that was because he was a upy.

he is a lovely black dane and growing nicely.
unfourtetly hes going to vets tomoz    he had an op on his eyes 9 days ago  for cherry eye and has to go back   may need anmother cos his lymph  gland has come up now.

where bout in anglesea are u movin to.
4 a day out head totreaddur bay .  there are so many quite beaches that you can let your dog swim in the sea  and not be bothered by any one and the water is sooo clear  its lovely.

We are moving very near to Benllech, alas Dolly hates the sea and spends half the time running away from the waves lol She is a right Scooby Doo and will do anything (bar recall) for a slice of ham.
I'll pm you after we move as my hubby knows loads of walks round there so i should be clued up by then :)
- By tracey [gb] Date 25.01.04 20:49 UTC
yeah that wud be great what colour is your dog

i always wanted to go to the puppy partys  but most dogs r scared of him so it seems so pointless going because other dogs r just scared of him.....
- By mygirl [gb] Date 25.01.04 20:58 UTC
Dolly is a fawn, why don't you try a ringcraft? My girl did very well there, once the other dogs get used to him he won't be a threat no more. :)
- By Carla Date 25.01.04 21:37 UTC
Recall? Its where you stand yelling a name at a rapidly disappearing dane backside, at which point you turn round and run off and the aforementioned dane panics and runs after you.... with the sound of heavy breathing and thundering footsteps bearing down until you find yourself flat on the floor, face down, covered in mud and slobber  :D :D
- By mygirl [gb] Date 25.01.04 22:13 UTC
Ohhh is that what it is?? Silly me i thought it was shouting "Get here you little B*gger, when i get my hands on you i swear" with on Mondays a piece of cheese, tuesdays try Ham, wednesday try liver etc until Sunday when she isn't allowed off the lead at all :D That'll teach her.
- By Carla Date 25.01.04 22:19 UTC
LOL @ Sunday :D :D

Willis is still pining for Phoebe...unfortunately, I am still the object of his affections. Its very tiring, but I have no problems with recall at the moment  :D
- By mygirl [gb] Date 25.01.04 22:32 UTC
God aren't you lucky (Not the attention the recall i mean :D ) it must be awful for him though and you ! although i bet you are secretly chuffed at being center of his world lol. :)
- By Carla Date 25.01.04 22:33 UTC
Isn't it about time I had an up-to-date pic of Dolly?
- By mygirl [gb] Date 25.01.04 23:07 UTC
Chloe the only ones i can get where she keeps still is when she is asleep and then it's the "legs akimbo" shot :D She's a tart and she knows it lol.
- By Carla Date 25.01.04 23:10 UTC
thats ok...I got a great one of phoebe doing an alien impression - want to see it? :)
- By mygirl [gb] Date 25.01.04 23:19 UTC
Yes lol send it to me, i'll get the digi out tomorrow and take some snaps if i can get her to keep her legs shut oooh err lol :D At the moment she has her whole head down the back of the sofa (must be something interesting fell down there).

 All this Dane talk and I miss it!

ChloeH Where's Phoebe for Wills to be missing her? Is she in season?

Dizz has very little idea about recall and it will be a very long time before I even risk letting her off lead - if she can't leave a shiney stone in the garden when I call her I've no hope when there's other dogs etc   She did go to obedience class this week - mainly to keep up the socialisation. She loved being centre of attention and didn't even back down when a rottie barked at her... in her daftness she thinks everything just wants to play :) Met all kinds of dogs and owners and got a cup of tea into the bargain :)
- By Carla Date 26.01.04 20:28 UTC
Yep - Phoebe is in season - go to Behaviour and look at "A message from...."  :D
- By Wishfairy [gb] Date 26.01.04 20:52 UTC
That's the funniest thread I've read on here! :D :D :D

Stop threatening 'my' boy with the 'C' word - you know he's too good for that :) Maybe it would have been easier to send him to Grace and keep Pheebs? That way he could teach Toly lots of tricks ;)

Tracey

I had the same problem with my OES when he was a baby and even now at 15 mth he still wants to play BIG time and a lot of other dogs dont want to know or their owners are afraid when he bounds towards them , paws covered in just about everything!
Just the other day a couple with a WHITE terrier X  were quite nasty to him and he only wanted a sniff and to say hello to their dog who seemed just as keen to say hello ! Thankfully I was able  to get him before the man connected with his foot that kept kicking in his direction.

It makes me so angry sometimes especially when I have seen smaller dogs that are nowhere near as friendly as my boy.
If I were closer I would come to play!!!
