Just wondered if anyone has any experience of prostate problems in uncastrated dogs
Further to my original post 2 weeks ago
max has continued to pass blood from his penis so is going to have an ultrasound on tuesday to hopefully diagnose the problem
Any good websites that could give me some more information

It could, of course be the prostate but it is just as likely to be the urethra, bladder, kidneys or testis that are causing the bleeding. Although prostrate cancer is possible in the intact dog it is extremely rare, it is rare in dogs anyway and most occur in the castrated dog. On the other hand and enlarged prostrate is possible in an intact dog and should it be this it can be treated by castration, confusing isn't it. Best thing is to wait until the tests are done and then you can discuses the treatment with the vet.

update on max
had an ultrasound this morning really interesting got to watch it max just laid sprawled out on the floor...grumbling all the way through though!!!!
largest cyst found in one side of the prostrate
have been recommended to have him castrated which should 95% likely cure his problem and he will have another course of stronger antibiotics following surgery...
the vet doesnt feel it is malignant from looking at the ultrasound...
its sad that it has come to this as if we wanted to have him castrated we would have done 7 1/2 years ago...
but what ever is best for him...just hope after putting him through this we have no more problems but cant guarantee 100%
