Nanuk was spayed on Tuesday and has been doing since then. When I woke up this morning I noticed that her scar was bleeding slightly. I took a closer look and saw that there was quite a bit of congealed (sp?) blood around the scar. I have been keeping an eye on her to stop her from licking it but at night, I can't stop her. Do you think this is because she has licked it too much? I'm a bit worried about her.
Any input would be most appreciated.

Try putting a childs t shirt over her neck and bring it up round her tummy (make sure it doesn't rub on the scar) - secure it behind her back with an elastic band or similar - this is very effective and limiting access to spey wounds. Failing that - ask your vet for an elizabethan collar.

Hi Charlene,
A teeshirt is a great idea. I put one of my bitches into one when she wouldn't leave her wound alone (safety-pinned over her back during the day, but she had to be sewn into it at night - like she was wearing a baby-gro!) so it didn't ride up or the pin come open). It worked brilliantly.

Use a buster collar at night, its the ONLY way you will be sure she can't get to it. Hope she is ok.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for all your replies. Just out of interest Dawn, what is a buster collar? I have never heard of them.
Kind regards,
Charlene

Like an elizabethan collar, looks like the dog is wearing a satellite dish! Stops them from licking at wounds etc..

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for that. I went to my vet's today and purchased one for her and all is now good! I do feel for her though, she keeps walking in to things!! Of course, I had to take a picture of her wearing it! Still if it stops infections then it is definately worth it.
Thanks again,
Charlene
