Any tips please, I am trying to trim the hair on my cocker's feet (5 months old) and the hair between the pads, I've now been trying for a week!!!! :(  I have pictures of how it should be done in my book.  He isn't frightened of the scissors or his feet being touched but how do I get him to sit still and stop wriggling?  At the moment I am trying to get him used to it by using thinning scissors so there are no accidents.  Any suggestions?

Just a little at a time with encouragement but definate firmness.  It definately helps if you use a grooming table or rubber mat on top of any kind of table, a)to stop any slipping and therefore make the dog feel secure and not panicky  b)to condition the dog to the grooming routine as oppose to play time, petting time etc . and c)to save your back :).  You must not trim between the pads though, hold scissors flush to the pad only.  I think by using thinning scissors you are prolonging the job, I would recommend the absolute sharpest best quality hairdressing scissors to minimise any danger of pulling the hair.

Have you got anyone who could help you and hold the dog still.  We normally have 2-3 people with a dog, one to cut and one to hold the leg still.  Then sometimes one will have to keep the head still.
