Hi guys does anyone know what the OFA hips scores translate to in UK terms we have been looking at a puppy whos mother is excellent but whos father is only fair.and i would like to know what the equivalent score would be here.
the Uk mean score for the breed is 12 if that has any bearing!

hi kao.........there is a comparison chart on the ofa site.....www.offa.org....i would not reccomend getting a puppy out of a fair......there have been several studies that have shown fair produces a higher rate of dysplasia....there is an article entitled ''effect of sire and dam hip score on progeny ''or something like that......e-mail me and ill send you a chart that they did showing production of hip scores.

OFA Fair equates to our 11 to 18 in total.  These are average scores in many breeds usch as my own, and these are the scores bred from.  Now trhat all breedeing stock owned by club memberes is scored there is no sign of any worsening of scores.  Our range has been 0 to 61, but we have only had an odd dog score over 40 with the vast majority (Well over 90%) scoring the equivalent of Fair or better.

BVA 0 to 4 = OFA Excelent (providing no side is more than 3)
5 to 10 =  OFA Good (Providing no higer than 6 per hip)
      11 to 18 = OFA Fair
      19 to 25 = OFA Borderline
      26 to 35 = Mild Dysplasia
      36 to 50 = Moderate dysplasia
      51 to 106 = Severe Dysplasia

The bitches that I own or have bred from have had scores ranging between 9 and 14, with mates scoring 6 to 13.  Of the 10 offspring scored I have had results ranging from 7 to 14 (but the offspring of the 6 dog and 14 bitch are only babies).  Or breed mean (average) score varies between 13 and 14 year on year, and the median (most frequently found) is 12.  The breed is one that keeps fit and active into old age rarely suffering mobility problems even with advanced old age.

My 12 year old still does the same walks as the younger ones.

Ok just to confuse things further due to me not reading the paper work propally :(
The hip results are not from the OFA but from the FDB
does anyone know what the difference is! regarding results and what they mean
again... the dam has `excellent` the sire has `fair` the grandparents are as follows-
on the dams side- sire uk score of 10. dam one side `excellent` other side not scored due to pelvis injury.
on the sires side -sire `excellent ` dam `good`
My question being is the FDB score system the same as the OFA !
thanks :)
