today my friend gave her 2 staffs about 5-10mls of either seven seas oil or codliver oil. I asked what she was doing, she said it was for the coat, and asked me what i used on taz and bailey, when i replied nothing, she seemed quite surprised.
Which one of the oils would it have been and is it really benificial???
thank-you xx

I have heard of people giving supplements such as codliver oil to add shine to the coat but ideally if your dog is on a good balanced diet there should be no need for them.
You could add oily fish to the diet such as mackerel.

If you are contemplating giving extra oil for your dog's coat etc then you would be better off giving Fish Body Oil 1,000mg than CLO. The reason for this is that CLO contains Vitamins A & D which are fat soluble and too much can be toxic to your dog. If your dog is fed liver once a week this is a good source of Vitamin A and CLO will be superfluous.
FBO cannot be OD'd on, are full of essential Omega 3s which are low in both commercially and raw fed dogs as cereals make up the bulk of commercial food and so have high levels of Omega 6 but low Omega 3 and most meat is grain fed and has the same problem.
Omega 3s are also excellent for brain health and joints. This has been proved on experiments on both children and dogs :D Another excellent source of Omega 3s are oily fish either fresh or canned eg mackeral, pilchards, sardines.

I used to give CLO but was then advised by my vet to give them Mazola Corn oil in their food. All their coats have a wonderful shine and people often comment on their condition. It has also alleviated one of my labs eczema problems.
