Never been to Kenya, but when I went to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi I took American dollars as they are better known than sterling - there was no way I could have got the malawian quatcha in England :D :D

There will be loads of places to change it, if you are in a hotel then there or banks shops etc.  In Zimbabwe we changed ours up on the black market and got twice as much as we would have in a bank   (wouldnt recommend it though - could get you into trouble

Some places will also take American dollars instead of local currency :)

I've been to Kenya and if my memory serves me correctly I got some Kenyan shillings from American Express and took the majority of my spending money in American Dollar travellers cheques then exchanged them at my hotel.

HTH. :-)

Don't change too much either 'cos you can't bring it out of Kenya at the end.

I take US dollars everywhere (except australia and europe) as most countries prefer them, some even over their own currency.  I took US dollar travellers cheques and some some single dollar bills for tips when I first got there.  American Express will order you any currency as long as its legal to import it.  Another thought, don't take Scottish money anywhere, everyone thinks its counterfeit and you won't be able to change it even in bureau de change!!

Northern Ireland sterling is just the same - no one accepts it without a fight

Have a lovely time ! :)

Try to dress down on the flight as you come out of the airport they will pick up if they can see you have money and try and get money out of you by saying you have to pay money to them for local taxes etc !! Also if you have room take old trainers and tee shirts as they are great bargaining tools for all the local crafts !! I go a lovely carved figure of two leapards for a dirty old pair of adidas trainers and an old tee shirt and a few shillings !! You will get hassled all the time to but things but don't be afarid toi say no and tell them to go away ! If you do that they do but if you don't they will keep on and on at you !! :)
