My little westie is 16 weeks old and has intermittent bouts of diarrhoea with blood.  The vet told me to keep her on chicken, fish and eggs which I have done and this sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.  No matter how careful I am, a couple of days will go by and she is normal, then the next couple of days she has diarrhoea with blood.  I have tried given her just normal puppy meal for a couple of days and as I said before, she will be normal and then start with the diarrhoea and the blood.  She looks perfectly healthy and has put on weight but I am just so worried about her. I am taking her to the vet on Tuesday but wonder if any members can explain what is going on.

I'm no expert Guest, but try adding a couple of dessert spoons of natural yoghurt to her food. It may help, but won't do any harm either.
Hopefulluy more knowledgable folk will be along soon, to give you more advice.

Hi, there`s several reasons why this could be happening & only the vet will be able to tell you :) I would take a fecal sample with you for him to test to see if it`s a bug she has. I would then keep her on a light diet for a week before introducing her normal diet back very slowly over the space of another week, each day gradually increasing the amount of normal food in with the light diet. At 4mths her digestive works are very sensitive & still developing so things need to be done slowly :)
Why don`t you register & let us know how she gets on at the vets?

Christine, Spain.
