Well i have finally plucked up the courage to have my stomach tattoo covered,it had 3 and a 1/2 hours work originally, but 3 pregnancies had left it a little out of shape.now the 1st time round it was very very painfull.i cried im ashamed to admit.i am now going for 1 hour sittings every week.i decided i would try to be feminine(not really my style) and have flowers etc.i figure it will take about 6 hours in all to cover the original tattoo, plus extra time to join it in with other tattoo's properly.i am thinking of having my foot done but im not sure
Where was the most painfull place you had a tattoo done?

Hi Mel,
I've got a tattoo on my back at the base of my spine, just above my bum lol :D I never see it unless I look in the mirror but my 20 month old son has just started noticing it and thinks it amazing!
I have to say though, for some strange reason, it didn't hurt at all. I don't know why and I don't intend on having anymore as I think I was very lucky that it didn't hurt :D
I stupidly thought I had a high threshold of pain and thought chilbirth wouldn't hurt as the tattoo didn't - how wrong I was :D

no i think childbirth is quite bad, give me a tattoo any day :D
saying that i had some strange birth experiances, with my 1st i had been on gas n air for about 16 hours and starting halucinating(i thought i was an ewock(sp)from star wars).with the second i laughed all the way through,as my waters had only punctured and the poor midwife was saturated with every push.and with my youngest being so early i thought i had wind and she was there :D

Ive got one on the front of my ankle joint/top of foot, that REALLLLLLLLLLLY hurt, thats probably the most painful thing EVER, oh, except having my head stapled back together.
Make sure when u get it covered, that you see photos of the tattooists cover up work, some are great at it, some are rubbish!

Hi.
I don't know who did your tongue, but it certainly shouldn't have hurt AT ALL. Most reputable piercers use a numbing spray on your tongue so all you feel is a strange pressure but NEVER any pain. I had my tongue pierced while I was working for my local tattooist (he was bored and decided to do my tongue as a giggle and to pass 5 mins!!). As I was working there, straight after it being done, I had to answer the phone and I had no problem talking. Drinking was a little more difficult though as my bottom lip went a little dead from the numbing spray!! Most people experience trouble eating the day it's done but if you stick to soup or a soft sandwich, you're fine. I think it's great having your tongue pierced and know a girl who loves it so much she's had it done 3 time!

Hi Mel.
I could talk to you for hours about Tattoos!! I just love them and have a rather large one covering my left shoulder, breast and top of my arm. I've had it done in several 2 hour sittings. I also used to work for my local tattooist and saw my fair share of crying and fainting (quite often from the men!!)! As a general rule, women have a higher pain threshold than men. I had a tattoo done down in my bikini line and found it to be quite a turn on while my hubby had one on his shoulder (generally the least painful area) and nearly passed out!! The stomach is a very sensitive area to have tattooed and so I think you are being very sensible to have it done a little at a time. The top of the foot can be quite painful as well as you are getting tattooed over a very boney area. The most painful part of the body to have tattooed is over the ribs on your side. Even my tattooist said he had trouble getting it done there and he's got them pretty much everywhere!!
I hope your cover up goes well and if you would like to chat further, please contact me.

After being married to a tattoo artist for 7 years there's a few funny stories I could tell you :D
My most painful bit was the very top of my spine but I've only really got my back done so it's hard to say how bad it compares.
Down the side of your ribs is the worst place to get done - where your upparm would cover when you're standing straight - but your feet wouldn't be too far behind there

hi D.W,
it is my intention to start joining up my tattoo's eventually,i had my boob done for a xmas present from my hubby, and im considering taking it down the ribs to join my stomach, when my cover is done it will come quite high anyway.it was quite funny on saturday watching a young lad go white,it does seem to be male's that whitey though.the only time that i felt faint was having my nipple pierced.

Hi Mel :)
I have a tattoo at the top of my back and it didn't hurt at all. My friend has got a band of daisies round the top of her arm which she said really hurt, i have also heard the top of your shoulder can be quite painful. I guess it boils down to your own pain threshold . Good luck with the cover up.

3 pregnancies had left it a little out of shape <<< snip >>>.i am thinking of having my foot done

well the colour is healing well,i have been told to apply pile cream and not to allow it to dry out(which is the total opposite of what i was originally told)and what do you know today when i applied some more cream the top just rubbed off,no scabbing,as it is constantly having cream put on.and the colour is as bright as when he first tattoo'd it.now.. my tattooist is a bit of joker so i wasnt sure about using the cream,(i asked the lady in boots and she said that she had also heard to use it)i havent used anything except warm soapy in the past.
so incase any of you have tattoo's done, pile cream seems to be the best healing product.
i only had it done on saturday and normally it takes up to 10 days to drop the scab,
roll on saturday when im having as much done as the tattooist can sit through.
