can anyone help, my four month old great dane has started to get very slight baldish patches. Does anyone have any ideas why, I thought maybe central heating was causing her to moult.

Hi,
I'm afraid I can't help but it might give another member some clue if you could say where the bald patches are? If they are around her elbows it could be that she's lying on a hard floor, her feet might be being licked or her back end could be nibbling.
Also what size are they? And what are you feeding her on?
The more information you can give the better advise you will get.
I've got a 12 week old dane myself and she's taken over our lives :) have you any photo's?
has he/she got a flee, sometimes they get bold patches if they are allergic to flees,

Are they on the forehead or front feet? Does she scratch or nibble at them? Does the skin look sore or thickened?

I think we are thinking along the same lines Jackie. Lets hope not, with luck it's just fleas.

Hello,
I can understand why you aren't saying 'it could be...' without more evidence as this can scare worried owners when there's no need but you've got me really curious now!
As 2 of the most experienced members of the board I'd love to know what the worst case scenario is with bald patches on a young dog - pm me if you'd rather not post :)
Thanks

Thankyou for your suggestions. I feed her on Burns small bite. The patches are on her back but they are not really bald enough to see skin. It may be her colour changing as she is getting older, she doesnt itch and it is just on her back. It maybe me just being paranoid, I may show the lady at the training classes just to put my mind at rest. What colour is your dane, Tiah is a blue.

On her back near her tail?

No there not on her tail, they are on her back near her spine direction. They are not clearly bald the colour just looks a bit patchy.

Think this may be just a coat change but if the areas are at the tail end of her back but still on the back it could be fleas.

Thanks for the advice. I think it may be a change in colour, she is a slate grey and the patches are a light grey colour, there is none around the tail area atall just on the back. I will bath her for fleas and see if anything comes out. Thanks again.

I'd love a blue but one dippy dane is enough for me at the minute, lol!
