At the FCR show we have a couple of volunteers go round asking memebers to take part in a guess the weight/name or whatever of something. We find that by going round to the people who are at the ringside helps otherwise you rely on people finding you and then taking part.
Another fundraising idea is to have a Guess how many coins in the bucket. It was done at our local school. People are asked to guess how many coins will be in the bucket at the end of the day, it costs them a £1 a go, the winner gets a percentage of the money in the bucket. It brings in a small amount but is very popular, it also has the advantage that you can ask people as they are standing doing other things such as watching at the ringside.
A photo competition was a good fund raiser used at a RSPCA exemption show I saw. They asked for photos which they pinned on a board, under each picture they pinned a strong envelope. People put money into the envelopes of any photo they liked, the winning photo was the one which had the most money in the envelope underneath, and the winner had a prize. They divieded it into adult and childrens photos, the adults won a bottle of wine and the children won an Easter egg, as it was Easter then.
A popular dog club party competition is a guess the breed of dog, I sometimes find something like my daughters Africanis dogs to put in as I know people will find it hard to identify these dogs. As a trick entry, try putting a crossbred dog on the competition board, I did this once at an exemption show, a few breeders did put down crossbred. I know there is a magazine which over the years ran a successful competition asking people to guess the breeds of dog in the pictures of crossbred dogs they printed each week. They may be willing to help you by giving you copies of the photos and answers. It may have been Dogs Today.
