My 15 mth lab has been vomiting since Jan 2nd. He has lost over 4 kilos in this time and can't keep any food down. He also vomits bile if no food in system. He has been x-rayed, given medication for stomach ulcers, given bips and x-rayed again, opened up, no blockages found, and restarted on small amounts of food given by vets at hospital. My current vet can't find out why and has referred him to royal vet college in potters bar who will be doing further tests on Monday (x-rays, ultrasound, biopsies and endoscope). While he was being examined at royal vet college I am sure they found something but would not assume anything. I know I should wait for results but the "not knowing" is driving me insane. Is he going to pull through? Is it cancer or some sort? Will he ever eat properly again? I'm going mad with worry.

Knowing a few of the people there I can assure you that he is in the best place. The staff and facilities there are as good as it gets. There is no point in trying to second guess the problem, just try to keep him happy and relaxed.
I'll be thinking about you on monday. Please register on here then you can tell us how it went.
Wishing you well, John

I'll second what John has said.
I've had close connections with the RVC for a long time & he really is in good hands there.
I'm sure they will find out what is causing his problems.
Please let us know how he gets on.
Best wishes & hope all is well.

Hi guest,

We'll all be thinking of you and crossing everything on Monday.Whatever happens, you'll always have friends to 'speak' to on Champdogs, either to laugh with or to cry with. Give him a hug from me.

Hi Guest,
We would all love to hear how your lab gets on. It's free too! (to register that is)
There are also many people on here with a great deal of experience with dogs (not me, but I'm learning :) ) Who I'm sure will help in anyway they can.

If you can, please register and let us know how things go.

Same here. Good luck, and let us know how it goes - NEVER give up hope.
I had to take my GSD to Potters Bar over a period of 6 months, and they were fantastic, AND resolved her problems in the end.

Well my choc lab Scooby has been undergoing ultrasound scans today and still nothing has been found to substantiate a problem. The vet phoned a short while ago and Scooby hasn't vomited once since I took him to royal vet college on saturday. Plan of action is to feed him tonight (he will be pleased seeing as he hasn't eaten a thing since friday) to see if he vomits it back. If no vomit they are assuming he has a food intolerance (although he has had nothing different for the last 3 months) but if Scooby does vomit they will do further tests and probably do an endoscopy and biopsies. I am trying to stay positive but I miss him so much. Does anyone know anything about food interolances in dogs?
Many thanks for all your support at a time when I really needed and still do need it. Thanks again.
Hi Trisha, welcome to Champdogs :)
Keeping everything crossed for Scooby!! Sorry I can't help with food allergies, but I'm sure someone will be able to give you some information.

Hi Trish, sorry to hear about your dogs prob & have been following the thread. Just a thought but have they checked his pancreas? Also not too sure why they would assume food intolerance & why did they want him on Saturday, did they give him some dyes for special xrays? If he hasn`t had food for 3 days did they ask you to fast him or was it just cos he couldn`t keep food down & what have they given him in way of food/liquids or was it because of tests they wanted to do? And why didn`t they do a an endoscopy today as there could be something/foreign body stuck in his gut that could aslo be the cause of vomiting? These are just some things that would be going thru my mind & questions I would be asking :)
So many questions sorry but asking is the only way you`ll get answers :)
Hope he`ll be home soon.
Christine, Spain.
Yes welcome to Ch/dogs :D

Hi Trisha.
I'm so glad you've registered. There are several people on here better able to talk food intolerance with you. I can only tell you of me very limited experience. A friend with Flatcoated Retrievers has one with an intolerance problem, hers shows up as a skin condition. The feeds a chicken and rice diet and is able to keep things well under control. The dog has had it almost all her life and is now well into double figures! From that you can see that if this is the problem then there is plenty of room for optimism!
Best wishes, John
Hello Trisha,
Do hope that you get a favourable verdict soon for Scooby. It must be awful for you not knowing what's wrong. Thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Hi Trisha, glad you have joined us also hope that you have some good news soon and I can uncross my fingers. Will not improve my typing but it would be nice to know you have an answer, that I hope is one that is not too difficult to deal with. Know nothing about nutrition or intolerance I afraid so my good wishes are the only help I can offer at the moment.
Hi Trisha,
Welcome to Champdogs- I'm so very pleased that Scooby seems to be finaly on the way to getting sorted out. As some of the posters have already said, there are a number of people on here that know a great deal about food intolerances, so please just ask. I've thought about you on and off all day today, especially when walking my two labs, I really hope that it works out for you both. Please let us know how it all pans out.
Best wishes (fingers still crossed!)
Ali :)

Hi Trisha
I can't add anything constructive, just wanted to say that I hope you get your doggy back soon and find a solution to his problems. It's so awful when they're not well as they can't tell us what's wrong with them or what they're feeling.
Thinking of you and Scooby.

Hi, I was looking after my parents dog (they were on hols)- a springer..aged about 13 at the time..who kept being sick I took her to the vet and they did a test on her pancreas..and was diagnosed with pancreasitis (sp?)..which causes sickness and bad tummy ache..so bad that they cant sit or lie down..anyway they stopped the pancreas working for a day (basically no food) and then reintroduced food very very gradually..think it was Hills rice and chicken..and she had some medicine to help her digest it..now she is fine..a healthy 14 yr old springer..my mum just watches her like a hawk to make sure she doesnt eat anything that could start it up again (fatty food!)..she is always scrounging everywhere for anything to eat!!!..hope you baby gets fixed.. I know how upsetting it is when they are ill..I just wish they could talk...
Lots of luck Kellie
