I only have 4 more weeks to go till my little girl is in my arms.  I have everything ready for her here.  The breeder sends me pictures every week and we talk regularly.  She knows how excited I am and says it is completely normal.  LOL.  Does anyone have suggestions on what I could do to keep myself busy till the 4 weeks is up?  For those of you who don't already know my little girl is a pure bred white german shepherd.

Look after your house and garden and admire it for the next 4 weeks, it will never look the same again after having a puppy!!! :d  Enjoy your lovely 8 hours sleep, it will all change in 4 weeks time.  Start getting fit, you won't believe how much exercise you'll get with you new baby!!

Only joking about the above, honest!!  Some of my puppy owners have phoned me in the months before the bitch has come into season, then whilst she's in season and then for the 7 weeks of them being born, it's great to have new owners to be like this.

All the best with your new puppy.

ahh i remember how i felt waiting for Toby the days go so slow and the only thing you can think of and want to talk about is puppy, it will be worth the wait, and then time goes so fast and they grow up so quickly,
good luck

Hi! My pup arrived two weeks ago and it has been non stop since he arrived! I waited a long time for my pup, and I was the master of finding doggy things to do, to fill my time up until he arrived.

1) Book a vets appointment for a couple of days after he is going to arrive, for a general chack up etc.

2) read every puppy training book you can find!

3) spend hours on Champdogs, reading all the posts!!

4) Find a breed specific forum to chat to other like minded breed related
people!

5) Before he arrives you could bitter spray everything you dont want him to chew!

6) puppy proof the house! (look for everything and anthing that he could get hurt by or destroy!)

7) Buy a couple of disposable cameras purely for doggy photos, because you shouldnt miss this stage!! Our pup (Cracker) has grown already and I cant believe the difference in his looks! Im sure you will be sending a picture or ten to the breeder soon too!

8)Pick a name?

9) Cleaning products!! and get reading those newspapers!!

Thats all i can think of for now, have fun and keep us posted!

Its lovely to be so involved from the early days, Isabeau. :)

Lets go down the list to make sure I have everything.
1.  Book a Vet appointment.  Booked that the week I got the contract.  But it is a very important thing to do so I thank you for stating it.  A lot of people make the mistake of not doing this.  So I hope a lot of people who read this and are planning to get a pup in the future will see how important it is.

2.  I own about 50 books and have been training and reconditioning dogs and pups for pounds and shelters for the past 12 years.  I have added as many books as I could on just the German Shepherd bred though.  Just because you have a training book doesn't mean it will list the right technique for your breed of dog.  So having both training and breed books are better.  But agian a fabulous thing to state.

3.  Spend hours reading here.  Been doing that and have also joined up with tons of email clubs for training and for my breed.  48 of these clubs to be exact.  Agian a great idea.

4.  Join a breed specific forum.  Done that.

5.  Bitter spray house.  I like this one.  Actually because of my work as a foster home and trainer for shelters and pounds my house has been made totally puppy proof.  Which drives some people crazy when they try to buy me knick knacks as gifts.

6.  puppy proof house.  covered that in 5.

7.  buy disposable cameras.  Actually we went out and bought 5 rools of film.  So that should be good for say...hmmmm 3 days.  What do you think?

8.  pick a name.  Did that when she was only a week old.

9.  Cleaning products.  WE always have those in this house.  LOL

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions and advice.  Even though I have all of them done it is a good thing to mention because of people just starting in dogs.  So thanks and keep them coming.
