Our 5 year old bitch has been visiting our new vet for 3 months. the first visit was for injections, she was upset by male vet. Next visit for weight check( likes to many treats) no problem. On the following visit she was over freindly with the receptionist, next visit,:today: she started growling at receptionist as soon as she came to speak to her, vet then entered the room and she growled until I removed her from the situ. Female vet before change. Advice on what to do thank you. Renee

Dogs often are not at relaxed around men as they are when around women. Mainly I think men's voices sound harder. Also possibly you are not as relaxed around the new vet, particularly as it is a man. Both of these could make your dog apprehensive, particularly the latter. Our dogs know us far better than we know them, they have nothing to do other than watch us for a large part of the day. A confident attitude is so important when dogs are around so that the impression we give them is that there is nothing to get concerned about.

A couple of other points as from the way you write it appears to be out of character. Is she coming into season, some dogs do change slightly when seasons approach? The other thing is, any sudden character change should be viewed seriously. It is possible that there is a medical reason and if there are any doubts in your mind then a veterinary check up is called for.

Regards, John
