I've been too enthusiastic in "tidying" up my computer - and can not now send/receive emails either through internet explorer or outlook express, and am having to access my emails through the webpage - which I don't really like.
Please, could any of you computer whiz kids give me step by step instructions on how to restore this - I should be so grateful - obviously I've got my ISP up & running, or I wouldn't be able to communicate with you now, but I get messages saying "host pop.onetel not found".....
All help gratefully received - you can still email me, but I have to go through Tiscali (my old ISP supplier) to access my email address.....

Hi Margot,
I take it that you have an email account with onetel then ?
The problem is that outlook express cannot ( for some reason) find the mail server.
The only thing I can suggest is you can try and see if you are connecting to the correct server ...
Open Outlook Express.
Click Tools/Accounts/select Mail tab at the top.
Highlight the Onetel account by clicking on it once.
Click Properties.
Click the servers tab at the top.
You should see mail.onetel.net.uk in the incoming & outgoing mail server boxes.
If it does not say exactly this note down exactly what it says somewhere & then change it to the above & click ok.
Your account name & password will also need to be completed ( if it is not already in there which it should be).
Try that if it doesn't work follow the procedure again & reinstate what was originally in the mail server boxes.
I suspect it may be more involved than this though if you have been having a clean out, but it's worth checking. :)
You'll likely end up having to phone your providers help line & get them to talk you through it. :(
Good luck anyway !

Hi I did an automatic update then had a problem with outlook express this is what i did
click start
click programmes
click accessories
click system tools
click system restore
then restore the system to before the problem
Hope this works let us know how you get on

Yes, if you are running a version of Windows with a restore facility that could work. :)

Thanks Fablab - it worked!! And thank you also for the other advice about home page virus - I'd got that (and was trying to eliminate it when I lost OE) - Norton & McAfee hadn't picked it up, but I've expunged it now!
What WOULD we do without Champdogs??? Always an expert available, on any subject, any time.....
