WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET THIS DONE?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 12.01.04 11:34 UTC
If you are in the UK then your own vet tkes the X-ray and this is then sent off to the British Veterinary Association board of experts for scoring under thenBVA/KC Hip dysplasia Scheme.

It is best though to use a Vet who has a lot of experience X-raying Hips for the scoring, as the score can vary a bit if the x-rays are not just so.

The dog can be scored anytime over 12 months of age, but can only be done once, and if you appeal the score the same x-rays have to be used for any re-evaluation, so it is important to get good ones.

hello, just out of interest when i enquired my vets they said they can do it from 18 month's, could this be because they are a bigger breed or have they got it wrong ?

If I dare say so, think they have it wrong if they are in the UK, but it may well be best to wait until the dog is at least 18months. But you can have it done from 12 months in the UK. If you are in the USA I believe it is from 2 years.

Hi maybe your vet is of the opinion that your breed is best hipscored at around 18 months but as JackieH says if your in the UK it can be done at 12 months :) Gillian
