Could you give me some advise on overshot jaws.  I went to look at some GSD pups (who's parents were both hip scored and had all the relevant health checks carried out) which were only 3 weeks of age.  I wanted a male so I sat and spent some time giving them the once over.  My favorite which I thought stood out from the rest, had a slightly overshot jaw and I mean it was slightly overshot and not obviously so.  So at the time I couldn't make my mind up on whether he was the right pup because of this.  Can someone advise me if a pups jaws at this age can still grow normally (scissor bite)? and if I should tell the breeder I'll definitely take him?? or would you probably take the next best?? Which ever pup I decide to take will, when he eventually gets older, matures and has all of his relevant health checks carried out, be a stud (fingers crossed that is).  Any advise would be very much appreciated.

It may be worth asking the breeder, as they should know the line better.  they may know what to expect it to look like once all it's teeth have stopped moving. Just a thought.

very young pups should not have a very tight sissor bite as the bottom jaw grows for longer than the top.  a tight sissor bite at such a young age could mean that when a pup finishes growing they could become undershot.   a slight gap (only a few mm, like a size of  match head) is needed between the jaws at a young age to in order for the correct sissor bite to develop, any gap larger than this may very well not correct itself.  one of my dogs had a noticeable over shot as a tiny pup, a gap the size of my little finger tip and it did not improve much at all as he grew up,

It is not possible to tell what an adult's bite will be like from the puppy. You can have a very good idea, but there is always the unexpected. Do you want this puppy for show or as a pet? if you just want him as a pet, I wouldn't worry to much. I'd be more worried if he was undershot as that is not likely to come right.
