I've been told by several people that it's good to give my greyhound bones to eat. The problem is that most suggest large meaty bones but my greyhound finds eating larger bones a problem (he won't even eat a medium sized rawhide bone without me cutting it up for him!!). He used to race and was given the odd rabbit as a treat for winning a race and I've also found him eating a chicken carcass. I was always told that small bones and especially chicken bones, are really bad to give dogs as they can choke on them. Please can someone help with this? I would like to give him bones as he really enjoys them (and keeps him quiet for a while!!), but I'm not sure what bones would be the best to give him.

Hi,
raw chicken wings are ideal. My 5 month cocker pup has them every day nearly. keep an eye on him while he's eating them. coocked chicken bones are a no no cos they become brittle and sharp but raw chicken bones are fine. Do you want him to eat bones as part of his diet or just as an odd treat? My pup is fed a totally raw diet but my mother has her litter sister and she is fed Burns dry complete for 2 meals and raw ch/wings for last meal. The pups look great and are thriving.
Type in barf feeding on google and have a read. Theres loads of info now on feeding dogs bones and raw food.

P.S. I've only been raw feeding for about 5 or 6 weeks mysef so i'm no expert but going from my own experience my pup will do anything for a raw chicken wing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Raw bones are fine for dogs; please never ever give them cooked! You need to make a distinction between raw meaty bones for consumption and recreational bones designed for just that;
The former would be any bones with meat on them such as carcases, wings, thighs, drumsticks etc fed as the whole of part of the diet. My dogs are fed completely raw and have been for over two years.
Recreational bones are those such as cow shin bones and knuckle bones designed to keep a dog occupied by stripping off cartilage, sucking out marrow but NOT to be eaten; just remove them once bare as dogs can break teeth on them.
